Great photos. Thanks for sharing more about the club - and other vintage bikes. I would love to visit the club for one of the Moto GP events. The little Dream and I probably wouldn't make it for one of the Thursday night meetings.

I plan on heading up for the start of the Melee. Hope to see you there!

Loving it. :thumbup

My visit to the clubhouse was visual seduction as the old photos were addictive.

Well done here John! :port

I've ridden 3-4 times with the SFMC. It's really nice!

John, this is a fantastic thread :thumbup

Hi 65_dreamer,

I think I'm going to miss the start of the Moto Melee this year, but have gone to see them off in years gone by ... Really fun to see all the people and their bikes ...

Do you know where and when they are leaving this year? Think the old spot is gone now ... hope to see some of your pics! :teeth

See you at a MotoGP Sunday, soon! :ride

Hi John -

I haven't heard the start of the Melee has changed. I was at a wedding there a few weeks ago and the spot was still the same. There was an event there at the same time last year which made things a bit more complicated.

I always take lots of pictures at vintage bike events, so no worries there. :)

I've been to the past few Melee starts, so I'm sure our paths have crossed at some point. But hope to meet you at the club soon.

Haha ... I'm vintage, so when I say "years gone by" I mean more than a few ...
Where have you gone to see them off?

Used to be at the Palace of Fine Arts, down by the Marina in an Exploratorium parking lot that's gone now with the Doyle Drive construction, or at least a slim shadow of its former self ... :laughing

MotoGP today ...

Hey Vintage Cafe,

If you are looking for an excuse to hop around San Francisco on your vintage bike (or any bike) today, we're showing the Catalunya MotoGP event this afternoon, thanks to
Ace Cafe Rob and the SFMC Race Committee ...

4pm: Moto3
5pm: Moto2
6pm: MotoGP

18th Street and Folsom ... no cover and our fountain stocks
everything a motorcyclist may wish to quaff ...

Vintage Cafe content: there may be a vintage bike parked in front of the club,
we have a couple of vintage bikes on display, and vintage pics on the walls ...

see you on the sidewalk ... :ride

Hey timzilla,

I hear that the Moto Melee has been leaving from the parking lot at the Presideo Officer's Club recently ... I've been to see them off a few times over the years, and it's a lot of fun ...

SFMC at Dennis Magri's shop ...

Dennis's 1936 Indian Four ...

Dennis just finished having the bike painted and
says it is looking better than it has in years ...

Dennis used to own Magri Motorcycles, a vintage
motorcycle shop here in San Francisco ...
He still has a lot of the parts books he used to use ...

What the crankshaft looks like in an oil-in-frame Triumph ...
my '73 Tiger probably needs new main bearings for the crank ...
part numbers 18 and 38 ...

see you in the garage,

I smile when i see bikes I used to own...

This was my first real motorcycle, after a series of Rupp and Bonanza minibikes. One had a Hodaka motor.

at 15 I got a 72 Yamaha DT250MX. I was prolly 5-2 and 110 pounds. Little guy.

Hey Butch,

Cool Yamaha ... I learned to ride on one of their little 80cc two-stoke dirt bikes in the mid-70s ...

thanks for posting!

Etc. a consideration.

Hey Budman,

Sounds great! :thumbup We have a ton of people who are "friends of the club" that have been hanging out with us for decades ... showing up when they can, and it works out great because we love our guests ... :teeth

In fact, our bylaws specify that at each weekly meeting that we welcome our visitors with a round of applause ... we end every Thursday night meeting that way ...

Our attitude is that if you live near San Francisco and ride a motorcycle this is your club! The clubhouse is open to anyone with an interest in motorcycles or motorcycling every Thursday night ... :ride

see you soon,
-- John A
