salesforce tower from twin peaks ?

get it while it's easy
went on a hike saturday from the castro up to twin peaks. great view. but looking at salesforce tower, the way the dark bottom part lined up with the oakland hills, and the white top lined up with the sky, the building looked almost transparent. was this deliberate? i googled every key word combination i could think of, but nothing. personally, i think it’s a butt ugly building, but the effect from that vantage point was pretty cool. the image is poor quality and doesn’t do it justice - but it was like the building almost disappeared.

I love Da Whores
I work in the building directly to the left of the tower.
The top part of the tower that curves in, is all LED lighting. Mostly mechanical equipment is housed at the top. I think the skin is opaque and the lighting screens are behind the skin.
Saturday am, the image on the side facing the bay, looked like a man squatting taking a dump.

Isn’t that par for the course in SF?

according to the late Herb Caen, and personally verified, at the right time of the year and just the right time of day, the shadow cast by the roofline of the catholic cathedral onto the other part of the roof resembles the profile of a young woman’s breast.

Herb Caen! I sent him several letters back in the day, and he always responded with a signed letter. Total class.

Inspired or incidental, it's impressive.

My old boss had an article by Herb Caen, in which he was thoroughly dissed, framed in his office.

Impressive. Quality thread.

Come weekend I'm off to verify this.
I think the hordes of tourists always cloud my line of sight to judge the phenomenon

yeah - the colors of the building line up so perfectly with the color of the hills and sky, it’s hard to imagine it’s a coincidence. especially since the location is such a popular place to view / photograph the city.

hiking up there is awesome, you come up the hill on the outside of the wall. there were a shit ton of cars lined up to get into the parking lot, and it was jammed with people jostling for position to take pics, but being on the outside of the wall, we had an unobstructed view without having to push our way through the crowd for it. our hike was around 5 miles round trip (and portions were stupid steep), but overall it was pretty easy, and way more fun than driving. when someone suggested a ‘city’ hike, i was like - okay, but wasn’t super enthusiastic. it was way more fun than i expected.

Say what you will about the design, it is for sure a presence. Coming in from Marin, or going east from out in the Avenues, even coming off Skyline into Daly City, it just dominates. The scale looks 1.5 x anything else.
