R1200GS is a good bike for that. If I wanted to do it I would go to NV. 10h + gas stops and you are done. And you will hardly see anybody.

Who's comin'![/QUOTE]

Possibly.....I have been traveling a lot for work but toyed with the idea but I DETEST slabbing so some of the roads you noted piqued my interest. July/August could be done if not in New York fro work. We do have TN trip planned in September for the dragon and other roads. Can solidify as we approach. Not sure the wife wants to do this but who knows...she is as nutty as I. Typical pace you are thinking? We typically ride B to B+ two up depending on ride mates.

It's not about speed, it's about time management.

Exactly. I ride spirited but safe. I don't plow into corners that I can't see through. But no, it won't be "slow" per'se. We won't need to haul the mail on the freeway portions and I don't plow into blind corners hoping for the best either -- but we will be riding some very nice roads and, well, the point is to ride them. Hahaha.

Pace wise if I had to put a number? B/B+ is accurate.

But he'd right, these are about time management to be successful. Good planning, no fuckin around, clicking off miles and being disciplined.

By the way, it'd be a weekday ride. Monday. Tuesday. Etc.

TOTALLY agree with your approach, I too do not blindly go where one cannot see or not familiar. Spirited is a good word but STUPID I am not. Agree with time management also :) plus we enjoy riding and not faffing about too much. Weekday should not be a problem if I am here

Possibly. I may tag in if you get close to Folsom/Placerville/Auburn and ride the difference solo. I'd be on a modified 996 though. I did the SS1000 on an SV650 5 years ago.

Didn't you have a beamer? My DR did about 80 on the freeway, I had to shift down to 4th on Hwy 152. And not so sure if your tank and bladder will last long enough to make it through in 24h at 50 mph.

I already did a saddlesore on a Strom. I have a 5.3 litre tank on my DR. If I were there get another saddlesore I'd do it on the dr for shits and giggles.

Maybe. If schedule align, I'd be game. Done 1k before. Perhaps I'd be more valuable as the advanced scout again. Will check thread periodically. Link is from a previous 1k ride organized here on BARF.

Last time I did an SS1K I left at dawn and was home by dusk. I know it can be done without going fast, but speeding certainly makes it easier...

I've done a bunch. Fastest was 12.5 hours, slowest 23.5 hours. Most around 16 which is an enjoyable pace. Doing them back to back is fun too. There are a bunch of different certs you can get if you're in to collecting.

Okay. The date is July 30. I'll check back as we get closer but if you're genuinely interested and you pm me, I'll send you the route.
