bikeama, those pics sent a shiver down my spine. Nothing quite like guessing "shadow, fill, or deep pothole?"

Still A Rook
Skyline/84 and related get too crowded with tourists, bicyclists and cops on the weekends in the Spring and Summer, still fun but not nearly as fun as a mid-week ride. YMMV.

Is that Rock Creek Road off of Highway 193 out of Placerville?

I've been on that road from where it starts from Highway 193 all the way to Wentworth Springs, including many miles of dirt, and I don't remember any of it having patchwork like that picture.

As a note taker as well, I'd like to see how you'd fare with doing reverse routes. One route might be a "6" (East to West) while West to East can be a 9.

Just for discoganya's contribution, this has been stickied by me. I need to do some heavy work on Google Maps!! :party

No this is the Rock Creek by Copperopolis. Lots of Goats Roads in the area. Also close to where Lou lives.

I thought about doing it that way, but I typically run a road both ways and don't think there's usually enough of a difference to separate them out. The biggest ones I've noticed are going away/into the sun, which depends on time of day, dynamic radius turns, and any turns that link together in a particularly nice way. Some roads also will have blind turns on just one side, so that can make a difference too, being able to have an extra lane's worth of vision.

I'm one of those nerdy people that like spreadsheets, so I made one to rate all the amazing roads that I've ridden, to see which roads are the best overall. You should be able to sort them. Let me know which of your favorite roads I'm missing :ride

This is awesome, thank you!

This is a cool thread. I read it as an Excel nerd keeping a personal diary. It's subjective covering roads he's been on. Also, he mentions roads in the Bay, so the exhaustive list that includes roads all over California is outside the stated scope.

Keep riding. Keep updating YOUR diary, rudolfs001. Seems like you're having fun, and that's the point. :thumbup

Thanks!

That's pretty much what it's been. I've ridden a fair many roads across the US and started wondering how they stacked up against each other. What better way than empirical data!

At least until I'm financially liberated from a day job, the roads I get to try will be pretty limited to near where I'm living. Right now that's the Bay.

Has anyone tried sorting the rows? I have the filters set up, but I'm not sure if you can use the sort with the view-only link.

ScottRNelson, could you send me a Google Maps link to the Sky Ranch Rd you mean? I'm not turning up anything meaningful.

You're asking a lot for me to remember a road from more than a year ago. Get a AAA map of the area: Central California. Most of the good paved roads will show up on that map.

Here's the link, although I think it's more than what I can find labeled in Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps/place/S...2afb0c7afe5bc!8m2!3d37.4216284!4d-119.5627692

It was the alternate route back out of the hills down to Oakhurst.

I have GPX tracks for the rides that I did in the area, if you're interested. I can't claim that for all of the roads that I've mentioned.
