Need help. What size/range sprocket and jet to use at Stockton for an RS80?

Pilot Jet?

Main Jet?

Thanks in advance,

Sonny,

It may help if you state what carb (manufacturer) and size you have on your bike, and what current jets you have in place. Is the carb equipped with an air filter, velocity stack or nylon screen.

Also, describe what symptoms you are experiencing, ie problems at idle, 0-1/4 turn, 1/4 to half, half to 3/4 or 3/4 to full.

Btw, what octane fuel is being used and premix ratio......be sure you are using the correct ratio that your motor is tuned to.

We never ran Stockton with our RS80, but I can give you what we ran here in S. Cal. We had a Keihen 28mm stock carb, which I understand is the carb that comes stock from Honda on the 85's Ours had a 125 main jet in it and stock is a 135 and I have a friend who is running a 145 in his. I ran it like that at Buttonwillow, Steets of Willow, Grange, and Adams Kart Track. Of those tracks, Adams has the shortest straight and we ran 14-48. I would suspect at Stockton you would add 2-3 teeth on the rear or take off one on front.

Unfortunately, I'm no jetting whiz and the power of the engine didn't seem to be holding us up, so I didn't play with it. I never touched the pilot on it, so I can't help you there.

There is a really fast boy, last name of Campbell I believe, that runs a CR85 motard. They should be able to get you on the money up there.

Good Luck,

Rob

Sonny,

I was looking back over my notes for my RS80 ('96 cr80 motor w/stock carb), I don't remember the jet size exactly but it was stock range on the low end (like 120 or something).

Gearing I ran 15/45 on most layouts and 14/45 on the shorter tighter layouts

Hope that helps

I'm getting my bike back together and was planning on making the first race but it turns out I am out of town for a conference that weekend. Drat!! I should be making the 2nd one for sure.
