Road trip to World Superbike races in Utah

Hey everybody, I'm planning to ride out with my girlfriend to the World Superbike races at Miller Motorsports Park, taking place Friday May 29th through Sunday May 31st.

I would love to do this with some other riders.

I will be taking a few days off of work, maybe the Monday/Tuesday following, for the ride back. I'm pretty flexible on the details right now.

We can stay in motels or camp out. The route out there and back could be designed to take us through some very beautiful places.

I just bought some Corbin Beetle Bags on ebay for the Hayabusa to keep the gear stowed decently. If we end up camping, several bikes would make packing a lot easier, because we can share things like the jetboil stove, etc.

If anyone is interested, or already has a trip planned, we should collaborate. My email is my username at gmail, but PMs work too and posts are more fun!

The departure date/time is also something to talk about. If we leave Friday May 29th after work hours, we could split the trip into Friday, Saturday, and Sunday legs to arrive in time for the races on Sunday.

If we want to arrive earlier than that, we might want to take Friday off entirely.

I have not done this trip by moto or car, so someone who has would be very helpful to get some advice from.

went solo last year, long ride(rc51) by yourself, planned to make the ride in a day both ways.
got stuck in a thunder storm on the way there and ran out of daylight. overnighted in elko, NV. cool little town with casinos.

visited bonneville the next day, hollowed ground to gear heads. then got there that afternoon. not a bad drive, lots of bugs to kill. miller is miles ahead of all the ca motorsports parks, but it is pretty new so thats a duh!.

races were alright, mladin and haga fan, both crashed out in like the first dam lap. kinda lost interest after that.

made it back in one day. left salt lake at 7am, got to south sf at 7pm.

good trip, even better with +1 i bet. hope this helps your trip.
tons of stops and motels, average prices, about $50 a night.

have fun, might go this year, we'll see.

Long boring ride

Last, and only time I rode to Salt lake I called my wife and told her to NEVER let me do that again along I80:thumbdown

If you are going to ride to Miller then I suggest taking 50 as an alternate route or take a cage.

We are thinking about taking the toy hauler out to the races but most of the camping spots are already gone, left it to late as usual!!!!!!

I will keep a watch on the thread and see ends up going. There is a few folks from the Sierra Sports Bike club going as well you should look up their site or drop me a PM and I will give you the address:ride

Thanks for the replies!

50 has a reputation for being beautiful. What are the road conditions like?

...hwy50 is one of the coolest highways in the us...it is literally called "the loneliest highway in america" on the map and is a two lane highway that goes directly across the desert. road conditions can vary from county to county but last time i road it they were good. you are really away from things at times and can camp in many places just off the road, though legality may or may not be in question depended on where you stop. you need to make sure you pay attention to the gaps between towns and gas stations though, in a couple of places they are stretched out a bit.
...if you go this way, pay attention for "the shoe tree" after it becomes desert. if you pass it during daylight hours you will know what i mean. its a good place to camp if you are campin'.

Hey guys. I just came across your thread and thought I would throw something out there as an alternative for some of you who don't feel like driving that LONG stretch of I80 for the World Superbike Championship at Miller Motorsports Park in May. (I'm from Fremont, born and raised, and have done that stretch of highway more times than I care to remember).

I started Utah Sportbike Rental in 2006 here in Salt Lake City the first year Miller opened it's doors.

We're located INSIDE MMP and have a fleet of 2006-2009 model year sportbikes. Everything is listed on our website. We rent our fleet for all open track days at MMP and for street riding. (There is an APEX track day the day after the WSBK races that some of you may be interested in.)

We have guys (and gals) fly in and out of SLC all the time, rent, ride, and fly home.

We have all the gear you'd need if you didn't want to bring that either.

Anyway. Just an alternative I wanted to let you know was out here for you!
