President and one of the founders of the East Bay Dragons, Tobie Levingston, passed away.

The East Bay Dragons are reported to be one of the oldest black motor cycle clubs in the nation. Tobie's memoir ""Soul on Bikes: the Black Biker Set" is a worthwhile read and goes into detail about being black, riding Harley

Davidsons, and not getting harrassed.

The club will soon be celebrating 62 years, unfortunately it will be a somber memorial to Tobie.

How fortunate to have had Citibike offer me an oportunity to spend a little time with the East Bay Dragons.

Tobie, you wil lbe missed.

Recedite, plebes!
Sad news. :(

First met Tobie back in the mid 80's at the old Oakland HD shop on E 12th St. and occasionally around "town" over the years. Usually, on Saturday mornings at the shop and then again at the new HD shop that Dron opened around '93 on Hegenberger Rd.

He loved his HD Dressers. Big smile, big handshake and always enjoyed talking with him.

As ThumperX mentioned, "Soul on Bikes" is a good read.

RIP Tobie :rose

We lived near Fruitvale and 27th when I was a grammar school kid. We had 81 living on Nicol St near Coolidge, but the Dragons rolled North and South on East 14th, so we'd see them and think, "wow!"

The Dragons seemed less menacing to us kids than the 81 guys, but still pretty intimidating when so much thundering iron rumbling past us. (we are in our Catholic school outfits, of course)....

Rest In Peace

When I was a teenager growing up in SJ in the late 70’s, I dated a guy who had 4 older brothers. All 4 were Dragons. They were big dudes and looked intimidating as hell but were all super nice guys. I went to a club event once with them...a picnic BBQ thing. A very warm and welcoming environment for this little white girl :thumbup

Peace and comfort to his friends, family, and all those touched by his presence.
