Super sad today that Pat passed away at 62. Pat was an amazing artist, really funny guy, and will be greatly missed. Glad I caught them last year at Sunset Center in Carmel and got to hang with Pat a little after the show.

:cry

Sad news, been listening to the Smithereens all morning... :cry

I too saw them at the Sunset Center in Carmel in 2016, they put on a great show, but he did talk about his health problems and how he bloated from the different meds he was on.

I took a couple of crappy cel pics...

Thanks for that! We were on the left wing a couple rows behind you.

You know what I've been looping in my head all day from that show? When he was talking about his bandmate (guitarist) playing for the Beach Boys and then they started playing and mocking Beach Boys songs with an attitude you might expect from Jersey. Makes me laugh hard. :)

Oh and this show will forever be cemented in my life. My dad died the next day :(

Wow.

(I wish I had taken better pictures.)

I bought my tickets when the show was announced in July 2015, I remember because I bought them in between WSBK races at Laguna. The Sunset Center is a really great place for shows, I've been to performances from the Symphony (old people, turn off your hearing aids so they don't chirp) to comedian Lewis Black to the Blind Boys of Alabama. Ticket prices can be pricey, but it's close....

So glad I got to see them in SF a few years back.

Great band.

RIP Pat.

And RIP Gordon Downie; another lead singer who died this year that I really enjoyed.
