there's a story on the chive about someone creating a functional coffee table Nintendo controller that looked pretty rad. probably not a tribute, but still hawesome.

I still remember a Christmas when I was super little where I got one of those baby 8" VCR TVs and a Nintendo. best Christmas ever.

Yeah, my first game system, which came with Super Mario Bros., was...EPIC, and that day was one of THE best days of my life. I couldn't sleep at all that night. That useless Gyro robot was less cool.

Can I be....frank?
That post-war time in Japan is amazing to read about. Dudes like Yamamuchi-san rebuilt a devastated country from ashes, r.i.p. Mr Nintendo.

The Gyro Robot was a trojan horse. There was a bubble burst right before the Nintendo came out with gaming machines and no one was buying anymore. So the idea was to sell the robot and along with it came a free nintendo.

It was so bad that Nintendo themselves had to go to stores directly to convince them to sell it and would buy-back unsold units.

Yep, I listen to podcasts. :laughing

Still play Tetris on an original Gameboy, in the bathroom. The Wii was a disappointment due to no games (that were appealing to me anyways). Couldn't even get a decent sword game out of that console? Inconceivable!

It's also ironic to point out that he never played video games and Nintendo was originally a business that printed Japanese card games.
