Darren is the service manager at Rockridge Two Wheels in Oakland and a friend. I am totally gutted by this news. A good bloke and will be missed terribly by me and many. Cheers Darren!

Yes, I now remember Travis from my CityBike days visiting RRTW. This will be hard on Darragh!

I was excited about going to the open house this weekend and someone I was talking to just purchased a Royal Enfield from Rockridge today. I was telling them about the open house and that they should go. Short time later, I get an email from Rockridge about the open house and that it was canceled. I couldn't believe what I was reading, that Darren had passed. I had to read it twice to make sure I read it properly.

It really takes the wind out of my sails. I didn't know him personally, but he's the one I always talked to and got to know when I'd take my Royal Enfield there for service. Now that I think about it, he's the last person other than myself to have rode my bike. I can still hear his voice, a big smile, and "CHEERS!". If you've ever spoken to or have met him, you know exactly what I mean...he was certainly a great guy.

RIP man, you're definitely missed.

Of fuck! Darren is a friend, and one hell of a guy. He has done so much for me over the years. This is awful.

OMG This guy was one of the few people i dealt with when i bought my bike from RRTW.:wtf
RRTW is a small small dealer in Oakland, where the employees played several roles in the dealership.
You get to know everyone's name there quickly., well because the place is so small.
Tragic to say the least, god this is a small world we live in.

He was instrumental in obtaining the bike i wanted when i specifically asked for the one color bike.
RRTW didn't have the color, but Darren said "ill find you one mate"
Two days later he called and said come on in and get your bike.

Such a pleasant man, and really knew his products.
I asked him so many questions about my particular bike , and he would rattle off the exact answer like it was scripted.
Always with a smile.

Godspeed Darren.

RIP Darren.

So...

Does it piss anyone else off that the first line in the SF Examiner article is this:

"Two men lost their lives in separate traffic accidents on the streets of San Francisco on Saturday evening."

Admittedly the rest of the article refers to them as "collisions", but I thought everyone in the media knew by now not to use the word "accident"...

This article summarizes it well: http://www.newyorkpersonalinjuryatt...dia-can-you-stop-using-the-word-accident.html

Obviously I don't know anything about the details in this case (maybe it was a completely unavoidable but in the absence of knowledge of that, the SF Examiner should know better and only say "collision".

Damn,

I haven't been there in years, but Darren helped me out quite a bit when I was a broke newbie learning to wrench on my bikes and lived near the shop. I doubt he would have remembered me, but he was an good influence on me when I didn't know any better.

We recently covered that in a very acrimonious thread. Let's not do it again, especially in an RIP thread.

RIP, Darren. :rose
