RIP Cornelius “Neil” Talbert

Riding All The Time
RIP rider.
I never met Neil, but he sounds like a stand up guy.

Neil lived in my city, and was punted off hiway 17 (the section I ride 5 days a week) by a cager changing lanes into him, at what sounds like the same spot where a cager did the same thing to me, almost sending me to the pavement just a few months ago.
This just hits too close to home for me.

A nice write about Neil here:

about the incident from the santa cruz sentinel:
Decorated Vietnam veteran and Soquel High graduate Cornelius “Neil” Talbert of Scotts Valley has been identified as the motorcyclist killed Friday in a crash near Redwood Estates on Highway 17, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.

Talbert, 69, was driving a 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle that collided with a gray Honda Accord on southbound Highway 17 north of Madrone Drive at 11:45 a.m., said CHP Officer Ross Lee.

Thomas Karl Harness, 53, of Soquel struck Talbert while changing lanes in his Honda Accord. Talbert lost control of the vehicle, which overturned, and the impact ejected him onto the road and down an embankment of dirt and rock, Lee said. He suffered major internal injuries and was pronounced dead around 1 p.m. at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

Alcohol or drugs are not believed to have been factors, Lee said.

(and sorry if this is the wrong sub forum for this. Move as needed)

That's one of the best articles I've seen shed light to a fallen rider's fulfilling life. It's unfortunate we have to learn it this way. RIP.

Highway 17 could be much safer if they actually patrolled it. Most people speed, there are some crazy ass drivers, and its time to think About putting in solid white lines that force vehicles to change lanes less often...but that would mean money and time. Neither of which the CHP and CA state fund seem to care much about...

RIP Neil. Sounds like he was a great guy and not deserving of such an end. I avoid 17 in any vehicle if possible.

How an idiot can drive into a HD (so big and impossible to miss) while changing lanes is simply beyond me. RIP, Mr. Talbot.

Thank you for your service Neil and thank you for helping out other wounded vets afterwards. You sounded like one tough cookie, the world is a worse place without you.

"On May 28, 1968, Talbert was one of 88 Marines of Foxtrot company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment who were engaged by an North Vietnamese Army battalion of more than 500 men near Khe Sanh."

Great personality.
Motorcyclist to the core. Always riding one of his various bike.
Always in a good mood, and could spot the silver lining in anything.
He will be deeply missed.
