RIP 5/22 Nicky has passed (was: Nicky Hayden seriously injured)

Superbike Planet is giving regular updates. They've just transported him to another hospital after getting him stabilized. Hopefully it's just some broken bones or expendable organs that got damaged and not a brain or nervous system injury. He still has a World Superbike title to win, next year if not this one! I really hope it's not a career ending injury for him. Great guy, not the way to go out...

Totally agree; terrible thing to happen to anyone. :thumbdown

Especiallly a moto-racer World Champion. Hope he lives (prayers everyone); if so I kinda hope he retires. He's done enough many times over...

Get Well Soon Nicky!

Awful. Been a huge fan of his for so long and when I watch him know I always worry that he'll get hurt seriously on track before he gets a chance to retire. Never would have thought he'd get hurt off track. Fucking awful.

Horrible news. Really hoping Nicky would/will stick it to Rea and get a WSBK title under his belt. Prayers for the Kentucky Kid and a fast recovery.

Not as fast as I look.
Ugh. Goes to prove what has been said for a long time, "It's safer on the track, than on the street." It is hard to imagine how he was hit in the middle of the pack.

Poor guy. I hope he recovers and is healthy as soon as possible.

Its Dethklok!
Holy smokes! Forecast worsens- Early reports from Italy have it that before being life-flighted to a hospital better suited to his injuries, American Nicky Hayden was diagnosed with both a suspected “thoratic polytrauma” and a suspected traumatic brain injury (TBI).

His condition continues to be critical.

He was stabilized in a Riccione/Rimini hospital and then moved to a trauma center in Cesena.

My buddy was airlifted off of 1 in Sonoma for a broken arm. While it does seem Nicky has severe injuries, an airlift is not necessarily indicative of the severity, but sometimes just the remote location.

Holy hatrack. Get well soon Nicky. Just watched the Imola race last night. Ran into him at a CVS in Monterrey. Super nice guy.
