looking to buy a ktm 500, but the seat height is up there for me, seeing as i am not hard core, was thinking along the lines of smaller dia rims. i believe the stock are 21 f, 19 r. so dropping only a inch or two in dia.
not much of a drop. but might help me get my leg over the saddle a bit better.
(yes will make it very easy to get my wallet over the saddle.).

but other than loosing a bit of ground clearance. any "other" problems i am unaware of? as i would not be changing any "other" part of the bike, yes add a good custom skid plate.

What size would you switch them too? The rear is already an 18", btw. You might run into tire selection problems if you have a dirt bike with odd ball wheel sizes.
You would probably be better off just lowering the suspension and shaving the seat.

If you drop the suspension (or change wheel/tire sizes), make sure you do it equally at both ends, otherwise the suspension geometry can get screwed up.

I'd expect a plated bike to have an 18" rear rather than a 19"

17s are certainly an option if you won't be doing a whole lot of dirt on it
