Riding Around in Oz

Some pics from Sunday before last. I decided it would be good to take a 7-hour day trip to Glen Innes and back on a loop of scenic countryside. Most of these are snapshots from the helmet camera.

On the A1 motorway. That's *kilometers* per hour. :)

Australians don't seem to understand that "drink" is a verb, not an adjective.

Twisties start North of Grafton.

Stopping to admire the view in the Gibraltar Range National Park.

I had to dodge cows in several places!

Glen Innes is home of the Australian Standing Stones to honor its Celtic heritage. Sort of like Stonehenge, but in existince only since 1992.

Seasons are reversed here. It's fall in Australia.

Shadows are getting longer on the way home.

Nice pics, beautiful scenery, nice roads. Just watch out on that speed limit- I got pulled over in Perth for 90/80 (Km/h!) and guy says "you were way too over the limit for me to just give you a warning." Also, pay any tickets you get- they handle international skips by issuing you a drivers' license in the state and then suspending it, meaning you're guilty of many far worse crimes if you return.

Have a nice trip!

Yep speed limits are strictly enforced, and they have cameras. This is more than a trip though... the move is permanent if my wife's partner visa is approved.

Is everything backwards down there because they're upside down?

Pretty much. :laughing

Rod,

Do even the twisties you showed have camera's??

Damn evil speeders!!

:teeth

I didn't see any... but also in many places the speed limit is quite high for the twistiness, and I think those yellow signs (like in the US) are only advisory.

Thanks Rod.

I suppose they will send you a note if you had to much fun on the twisties and there were camera's.

The camera's would turn me off to going there to ride honestly. Not that I can afford to anyway. Just saying.

Camera enforcement varies by state. In Vic they're hella strict. NSW gives a bit more leniency. Speeding cameras be damned, it's worth the trip.
