Ride to the CMSP meeting with CityBike - April 19th

Those in the know, know that Budman is a member of the CMSP Advisory Committee, along with like fifty other moto-centric efforts. :thumbup Ride with us to see him do his thing, and help us show the CMSP how much motorcyclists care about rider safety and how our money is spent!

The ride will start at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park in Oakland, 2777 Middle Harbor Rd, Oakland, California 94607. Kickstands up at noon.

The meeting itself runs from 2 to 5 PM—that's right, it's an hour longer this time, probably to allow for everyone asking, "So where the hell are the goddamn lane splitting guidelines?" :laughing CHP Headquarters is at 601 North 7th Street, Sacramento, CA 95811. IMPORTANT: you must email your contact info to cmsp_unit@chp.ca.gov before the meeting for access.

The Facebook event page is over here. If you're going, and you're not one of those anti-Facebook people, it'd be great if you'd RSVP there.

Rider turnout matters. We keep bringing groups of riders to the meetings, leading Assistant Chief Chris Costigan to open one of the recent meetings with these words: “Bigger turnout than we’re used to. Usually it’s just committee members, and a couple—and by a couple I mean two or three spectators. So, obviously there’s a peak in interest on something, so we’ll figure that out.”

Please arrive at Middle Harbor more than thirty seconds before noon with a full tank. We'll be rolling out at noon, to make it to Sac with time to spare before the meeting at 2 PM. And by the way, if you're going to complain about the meetup point being "too hard," you should probably join the SuburbanBike ride that meets up at Starbucks in Fairfield or whatever. :twofinger

This is a midday ride so traffic shouldn't be too bad, but you should be comfortable with lane splitting in heavy traffic to join us. The ride is only to the meeting—you're on your own afterward, although it seems a few of us always end up hanging out and eating afterward.

Good on you to keep these going Surj. :thumbup

Look forward to a bunch of riders showing their interest in the CMSP program. I had most of my proposals for the extra $$ in the fund turned down... yet I was the only person that put any forward. That was frustrating. You would expect others would be making some.

These will likely be reviewed in a very short sense. Perhaps some discussion on the ones that made it through for consideration will help them move forward.

You should make a secret forum here so attendees can create a coordinated question attack. (and then delete this :laughing)

Sent my email today, will meet everyone in Sac.

:thumbup We'll see you there, Bill!

There is really only one permanent question I want answered. You touched on it. Hope we get the answer.

This is just over two weeks away. I know, it's a freeway drone on a workday, but it's a good time nonetheless, and a worthwhile reason for a sudden bout of afternoon food poisoning: "Uh... I'm gonna head home. Not feeling so hot. Might work from home tomorrow." :green

Two days till we head to The Sac!

Depending on which node of Skynet you query, you may see a slight chance of rain in the morning. But we don't care, because we're real riders, right? :cool

We'll see you at Middle Harbor Thursday morning!

If you can't make it to the meeting tomorrow, the CHP has set up a conference line to accommodate up to 50 people.

The dial-in number is 1-877-492-4764; passcode #502784. Dial in at 2 PM to join the fun from afar.

Bummer Bill.

See you in awhile George, Surj and all.

Will we get the guidelines... that is the big question for me.

Good article Surj :thumbup

Pretty proud that all of those proposals came via BARF.
The fact that no one else put any forward was a little frustrating too.

Oh well. We did our part!
