Ride to central Cal

Planning a ride to Santa Maria in the spring(March). Looking for tips, good routes (Hwy 1) any other info., camping spots etc.
One site on the itinerary is the motorcycle museum in Solvang.

You'll need to cut inland at some point, as Solvang is east of 101 (Buellton exit). But for the ride down, I'd definitely take the coast route -- 101 south from Gilroy is BOOOR-ING...

Coast route is good, but you might also try 25/198/Jolon Rd/58, 33, 166, 1.

Oh, and if you want to camp, try the Pismo dunes. Naaaaace.

Let me know what route you pick. I just got back from Solvang yesterday visiting friends, but I drove my car. I want to ride my Busa back down there in March-April time frame, and am looking for a good route. Definitely not 101.
