One of the roads I frequent starts growing that stuff at first rain and remains all winter. Very very slick.

Also, metal grates = slick as ice.

Re Tired Not Dead
Riding in Oregon - year round - really helps with the slick roads riding skills. The only think I won't ride in - ice. Two major scares on ice - no bueno.

Love what (especially around Portland) the wet teaches.

Those steel grated bridges with the tire wear grooves, at the advanced course. :thumbup

Re Tired Not Dead
In the 'olde' days - you couldn't trust your tires. Now, you can. (As long as they're not Dunlop K81 or other ancient tire tech).

Sport touring tires FTW when it comes to rain riding. Sport tires? Not so much.

The faster you go on the bridge grates - the sooner you can unclench the seat. Just don't fall down on the grates. A chum from the Air Force did that on morning in front of me on the way to work in (of all places) Marysville, CA. It did not work out well for him.

It was the "old days" when I lived there, and..rode those bridges.

Glad to hear, that the tires now, work. :thumbup

Roger that. I find that fighting the bike when it wanders in/out of the grates/grooves is what will get you into trouble. Seems the best strategy is to stay loose and not over correct.

Here's one for you: Little tree limb poking out in the road from last nights little rain took my fooking mirror off and somehow bent the heck outta my license plate holder with no other damage.
Wife saw the mirror laying in the road when she went out and wondered if she should look for me off the side. Picked it up myself on the way back. Might be a JB weld thing.
Realized it could've been worse. Have to give branches more respect.

I had a full on, bars to the stops flat track moment at 2am on ice in Colorado one time, on a 1965 r50/2. No idea how I pulled out of that one without going down.
