Richmond Bridge shut down in both directions due to "falling concrete chunks

Probably related....the KCBS traffic woman said that she's never seen such bad gridlock in SF, that it's taking 1:50 to get across the Bay Bridge!

Lol this blew up on bookface, some son of some civil engineer who actually built the bridge told his family to never cross it.

Like the cement mixture was salt water instead of reg water and it was falling apart from day 1 due to the salt content lol Hocus pocus or a real issue at hand???

I don't know the details, but this is far from the first time it happened and it won't be the last.

My impression was that it isn't a serious structural issue, but that doesn't mean a chunk of falling concrete couldn't kill you.

It certainly makes me rethink using the bridge on a motorcycle. 37 seems a bit nicer right now. Whether or not I’ll actually do that, who knows but this is the first time the bridge has been shut down for falling concrete since I moved here. I never contemplated that as been a hazard, I always picture an earthquake while I’m on the bridge.

I stand a higher chance of someone drifting into my lane and hitting me head-on, than being hit by falling debris.

I bet my life every single day that drivers around me pay attention to those painted lines on the road as they're traveling towards me at 60+.

My name is Shannon and I endorse this message!

But seriously, I have always anticipated a drifter, never thought about concrete. Just another hazard to consider now.

even if you take it on a daily basis, the odds of the chunk falling as you're passing under it are low enough that I wouldn't worry about it

once it's on the ground, it's no different than all the debris we see on the road already
