Richmond Bridge is falling down (and closed in both direction)

Imagine the headline in Marin: "Richmond Bridge closed, East Bay cut off!!"

One of my long time fantasies has been to weld the gates shut at gated communities.

.... and yes for anyone who cares, I'm paraphrasing an old jingoistic headline regarding fog in the British Channel.

when Candlestick started doing that, it closed :x.

i think the bridge 'should' do the same, but frazzled commuters might make them re-open it; at least in the near -term, while they make a plan to fix/repair it while they collect the 4-6 billion to replace it.....

As a kid growing up in a still war-ravaged UK, I was impressed and inspired by the civil engineering marvels of the US.

Now as a naturalized American, I'm shocked at how decrepit our infrastructure has become. I'm even more puzzled as to why investment in infrastructure has become a bad thing? Building and maintaining infrastructure is how you keep the economy going.

because that's money that's not going into the pockets of politicians or their friends. Which is an outrage.

I used to have to commute that bridge because my son did gymnastics over there, four times a week. I had a chunk put a chip in my window glass years and years ago but never knew how to pursue some kind of recourse.
