Review - Sidi Deep gloves

Was looking for waterproof gloves, Sportbiketrackgear had these Sidi Deep's for $30 a pair. At that price, I figured I didn't have much to lose.

To get the big important downside out of the way first: I've worn these gloves somewhere between a dozen to thirty times and the seams around the thumb/hand area are already splitting.

I don't have a lot of experience with gloves but these almost feel like ski gloves. It's fine for me, since they are meant to be wet weather gear they should probably be a bit more insulated than summer style gloves. I don't know if there is such a thing as super thin and still warm but I wouldn't have expected it at this price point.

For the kind of riding I do (in-city commuting) the gloves will be fine*. They're comfortable to the low-50s and I can see under the seam that there is a completely separate waterproof liner -- I've ridden in the rain with these and despite the holes my hands are still dry. Since I generally stay within SF I'm not terribly concerned that the gloves will disintegrate in a crash but if I were a freeway commuter I might be a bit concerned.

It would be hard for me to recommend them to anyone, simply for the fact that they've started fraying this early on, but they're still waterproof and still safe enough that I'll use them up this winter season.

*I reserve the right to change this opinion should the seams completely fall apart within the next two months.

UPDATE: The fine people of Motonation (Sidi's USA importer) have offered to replace the pair with a set of AGV Sport Hydro's. So far so good on the Hydros except for that they have no knuckle armor or extra padding. Just a waterproof glove.

Suggestion... Take a look at Held warm and dry. I hadn't been a huge fan of Held before owning these gloves... But they are pretty much perfect cold weather/rain gloves. Armor where it counts, easy to wear, warm, and dead reliable. They work well with or without glove warmers.

I've owned mine for 3 years now, and have tens of thousands of miles on em. Still protect, still dry, still comfortable. The only issue mine have was when a broken clutch lever wore into the pinky finger.

I am waiting on a new model to come out for my replacement pair.
Thou I bought locally and took the gloves back to the shop I bought them from for replacements.

these are Sidi gloves, not Spidi.

I bought these too for $30. Figured what the hell... got about 5 times out of em so far, haven't split yet. I'll update either way after a season.
