Recommend me a track day tire

That's DOT legal. I'm currently running a pilot power RS tire up front and a pilot power 5 tire in the rear. I had the RS on the rear initially but I burned through that thing on the street pretty quickly and never did get a chance to do a track day with it before going to the 5. Just couldn't live with how short the tire life was on it, even though I did enjoy the tire. Now that I have the 5 on the rear and have done a track day with it i'm not as confident on it as the youtube videos had me believe I would be. Surely some of that may very well be me just being a crappy rider :laughing. Anyways, the tire started to move around a good bit towards the end of the day, and i'm not particularly fast or on a high powered bike so i'd like something a bit more aggressive, even if it means less tire life.

So, what are my best options? Do i go back to the RS and give that a shot or try something else? Not sure if the RS is drastically different than the 5 or not other than the obvious is why I question that decision.

Husky 701 is the bike, intermediate pace
Thanks in advance

Id say put a RS on there or try the new GP. Oscar @ Race Pace Motorsports is the local Michelin Man, I think he will be able to point you in the right direction.

Contact Oscar at Race Pace Motorsports. The new Michelin Power Cup 2 is supposed to be pretty awesome, doesn't require warmers, and is a DOT tire.

Are you sure? True story: before I got Dave Moss to adjust my suspension I was burning through DOT race tires after 1 or 2 days even though I was riding at a pretty average C-group pace. After Dave setup the bike, I got to the point where I was riding low A-group pace and going through the same tires half as often...

After I burn through my Conti Sport Attack 2s I'm going to try a Michelin Pilot Power 2CT. Supposedly it's a good all round tire.

BTW the Sport Attacks are a great sticky tire but it's single compound and wears in the center pretty fast and they're $$$$.

Have you considered getting a second set of wheels? Then you can keep the serious rubber on those and just swap back and forth between track days and street riding.

I do that with my XR650L so that I can swap on more serious dirt tires when needed. Takes me about 20 minutes to make the change.

Hmmm. I get my Sport Attack from Cycle Gear. $125 for a 190/55

Def will give them a call, thanks for the advice.

:thumbup something else to consider for sure

I think this is really the ticket and probably where I'll wind up.

Q4 front, Q3+ rear.

I’m a A-/B+ depending on the class. A set of tires with this setup on a bike nearly identical to yours lasts me 4 trackdays

At your level (about where I'm at) you will not be able to out ride the Q3+ and you'll save a few bucks over the Q4. These Dunlops are real hard to beat on $/performance.

Called Oscar and ordered some tires. Set me up with a powercup evo in the rear and a powercup 2 up front. Reason for the mix match was one of those two isn't offered in both of my tire sizes. Thanks all!

I've comfortably made Dunlop GP211 sets last 10+ track days on my SV650, but I think the Q4 might have pretty close performance too.

Really!? hmm I'll go check it out. I just checked revzilla just now and for a 160 it's almost $200! It's a great tire but I don't think it's that great =P But yeah I want a dual compound tire next.

sorry for the delay guys, last scheduled track day was canceled because of weather so wasn't able to go try out the new tires until yesterday

Way happier with this setup, felt way more planted than the pp road 5s, which i guess was to be expected. Later in the day i was getting a bit of movement but still nothing like the 5s. I assume it's a track temp thing? cuz i'm not getting any faster :laughing

Also, disclaimer, after a stern talking to i guess i'm more a slow A group guy than a fast B group guy, as they had me switch groups. Not that any of you care but maybe it helps with tire selection for anybody doing any searching.

I was trying to maintain about 28psi hot in the rear throughout the day and the front at 30psi .

Anyways, i'm happy, sticking with the rear and may go back to the RS up front depending on which tires cheaper at time of purchase.

Any gurus wanna take a look and tell me if all looks right in the world if i need to make some changes?

Rear, power cup evo
front, power cup 2

For road racing style, I really liked the Q3+s. The conti attack sms are great stock tires, but they definitely get torn up on bigger tracks.

Glad you're liking the Michelin's though!

Whatever that means
I like the price point of the RS10's and thought the performance was good too. I seem to be the only one singing it's praises though so... everyone else has bad taste.
