Reading for this time

in early August I had surgery and had some time off so I read some books. One was by Katherine Anne Porter called "Pale Horse, Pale Rider", which is about her experience in the 1918 influenza out break.
Another was Thomas Mann's "Death in Venice", and I am about to start Daniel Defoe's "Journal of the Plague Year".

What you all reading to stay in tune with these times?

I'm actually reading this; a leader in the last century who came into office just as the things were unraveling for his Country.

Told in a different manner than all before it as it is based on diaries of the period which show the human side of this great person.

Highly recommended as it is written on a personal level and will help ground one during this current crisis that while there will be great sacrifices we too shall prevail.

enjoyed "Issac's Storm" by Mr Larson. that book might make good reading for-this-time, too.

"The Splendid and the Vile" sounds like would be another winner for me, thanks for the heads up ... :thumbup

Smile & Wave for me!
Just downloaded "Discipline Equals Freedom" by Jocko Willink, a navy seal

Just bought Michelle Sagara "Cast in Wisdom"

I am curious though, why are reading books about plagues right now, wouldn't it freak you out more? :laughing

It is truly excellent and some of Churchill's odd behaviors at home and during parties will have you laughing out loud.

He was an odd duck but the right man at the right time, for sure.

Evidently casual sex with a stranger during an air raid was "a thing" during the Blitz! :laughing

My parents were kids in Southampton UK at the time.

550lb bomb landed in my Grandfather's tiny back yard.

Didn't go off.
