Rainy Season

Now that rain is upon us, is there anywhere where you can actually ride and get muddy? the MX tracks that I know (Argyll, Diablo, Club Moto) usually close down and same goes for Carnegie/Metcalf.

Just curious if I'm SOOL when it rains or if there's a place to ride.

You can ride Carnegie in the mud, but frequently not the day of the soak.
I think that applies to Hollister too.

Hollister Hills closes the lower sections including the Renz,mx track and tt track) when it is sloppy but the upper trails are open as they are more sand and less adobe.

You can ride Knoxville anytime you want, rain or shine.
The real question though is; do you really want to ride Knoxville anytime, rain or shine? :laughing

Some of the best dirt riding is at Hollister in the rain. The western sand section has amazing traction. Makes trails that usually are hard to manage into wheelie playgrounds. Carnigie can be a handful. I was taught that , to keep the tires from becoming mud coated slicks, that I had to keep my speed up to help throw the clay off the knobs. Kinda scary on the long downhills.

Got to go where there are no Rangers to stop you from riding or get to the area before them. Oversize tank is your friend. Don't come back to the truck until it's empty, as the Ranger might be waiting at your truck.

Yup, Hollister (the stuff that remains open) right after the rain -- or even with light rain -- is oodles of fun. I don't get many riding days to pick from, so sometimes I will go even if there is rain in the forecast. This is a vid from Nov last year showing conditions in between rainy days. It probably rained overnight before I went riding.

I may hit up Hollister this Saturday despite rain being likely.

Caveat -- there is 1 interesting clay hill section in the granite area that you'd be wise to avoid if you're not up for icy/muddy misery. Somewhere I have a map that I color coded to remember where to avoid.

That looks awesome!!!! Back in Mexico we used to ride in the mud all the time but over there there's no such thing as Red Sticker or Rangers....

Riding All The Time
speaking of muddy rides... i'm planning to ride Hollister Sunday morning. If anyone wants to join me for a mud fest, lmk!
I will be falling down, getting stuck, pushing my limits, and wearing myself out, same as always (but this time I will be getting wet and muddy)
I will have my rope as always :teeth
easier to pull oneself out of the mud with some help
