quick brake questions

Hi all,

I'm rebuilding my brakes and ran into a couple small problems. Here is a picture of a set of pads. The wear is actually uneven. I'm wondering if I should reuse them. No big deal if not, since I have extra set of pads.

Also, the manual calls for the caliper pin to be lubed with silicone grease. I looked all over for some but couldn't find any. Can I substitute that with either grease or moly paste?

Thanks for the help,
Jon

You'll need a heat-resistant lubricant. Heat from the brakes can make regular grease runny and go places where it shouldn't.

yes, better no lube than one that melts.

You may have a slightly sticking piston, causing uneven wear, but that wear pattern is common. Just put them back in the same caliper and side they were at and wear them out.

So a follow up question. Here is a picture of my pad pins. There is a groove worn into it. Is that normal? I'm guessing I should buy new ones.

Thanks,
Jon
