Quality Dash Cams?

Girlfriend's car was rear ended going through a right turn in an intersection by the guy behind her. Guy is claiming she slammed on the brakes (she did not)... We're waiting on the police report to come back, but in the mean time...

Please talk to me about dash cams you've had good experience with! Would like to keep the price down if possible, but reliability is important. As it stands, they're claiming their person is only partially liable. If we had any shred of video evidence, we could tell the insurance company to fuck off.

Whatever that means
I got the yi "2.7k" one and it's been the best I've gotten so far. Has WiFi so you can download the footage without having to fish out the SD card.

Should have mentioned earlier... WiFi / Microphone / GPS isn't really important to me, and I don't plan to use any sorts of applications on my phone. Given the PRC's knack of software and hardware based data covert collection, I'm only really interested in video, and pulling the SD card in the event of some sort of accident.

Well here is sample footage anyhow sice I went through the trouble of editing it and uploading it to YouTube before reading how paranoid you are.

Quality looks better without YT compression.

Also next time don't give statements to police, or insurance companies, get a lawyer and only talk to them.

Only reasonably paranoid :laughing

I appreciate the video and the tips on statements. There are certainly some things we could have handled better... Lessons for the future, though this isn't something I want to deal with again ;)

Doesn't matter if she "slammed on the brakes," either. The guy is still at fault for rear-ending your GF. I know because some fuckhead literally stopped in the middle of an intersection on a green light and I tapped her bumper. Fault was mine. Less than $1000 damage to her car and she was trying to claim all kinds of injuries.

Some of my customers have this in their cars. If I was gonna do a dashcam, I think this would be it since it will catch people wronging me even if I’m not driving the car.

There was another fairly large thread about dash cams in the KS a few months ago if you want to apply some Google Fu.

This times a million. What if a kid darted out in front of her car? She stopped to avoid hitting them. Sounds like asshole behind your gf was following too closely and/or not paying attention. This should be 100% their fault, even IF she slammed on her brakes for no reason. Drivers need to leave ample room between their car and the car in front of them to see, recognize, and react to situations exactly like this.

You don't have to accept what the other insurance claims; keep escalating. Cite California Vehicle Code sections, such as CVC 21703 (first that comes to mind)

CVC said:
21703. The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicle and the traffic upon, and the condition of, the roadway.

Sounds liek the other person's insurance is being slimy as fuck trying to wiggle out of paying.

I drive between 35-50k per year in my company truck, so at $90-100 for the camera and GPS antenna, it's cheap insurance and entertainment. Just uploaded a couple of videos. One night, one day. Don't mind the language. :rofl
