I received the following report of hazardous road conditions on Skyline on a cycling d-list that I thought might be worth passing onto this community. Please take care when riding Skyline...

Be really careful riding North on Skyline (CA 35) between 84 and Kings. My bike slipped out from under me on Saturday about 1/8 mi (200 - 300-m) past the single-lane road closure / stoplight, about 2 km past 84 when riding N toward Kings. There is a really slippery, thin film on the road there, within about 3 feet of the right shoulder and at least ~200+ feet long. My R wheel slipped out and I crashed there going about 8 mph on Saturday. The road only looked wet but there was a slippery film on it, I could get to traction with my shoe after I stood up. XXXXXX crashed at the same spot on Friday, and we both submitted maintenance requests to Caltrans (http://www.dot.ca.gov/d4/d4address.html).

I've noticed a spot close to where OP describes; near the top of the hill heading north.
There is a driveway or small gravel road that cuts diagonally in at a gentle left bend.

The East side of that stretch often has sand, gravel and dirt in the center line and in the right track. The corner exit is a place where many riders will be opening up a bit, so that can be a little exciting. Hitting a patch like that just when your acceleration kicks in...

It surprised me once, but not again.

And it seems like that whole section, from 84 up to Kings Road is cursed by Caltrans Goblins, never a dull moment.

Any news if Cal Trans got out there to clean it up? I'm going up there this weekend. Don't feel like pavement surfing.
