PSA Reminder: Get cash in hand before allowing test rides on a bike you are selling

Luckily, my neighbor did just that when someone came to test ride his bike last night. The guy said he hadn't ridden for 10 years, I'm more convinced that he hadn't ridden ever.

I live in a townhouse complex and the test rider proceeded to go full throttle directly into a brick column that enclosed someone's porch.

Smashed up the front fairing pretty good. Both headlights, windscreen, fender, etc. Cut his leg up a bit.

Of course my neighbor just signed the title over to him.

I felt bad for the dude so I called AAA and got the bike towed to its new home.

I'd seriously be concerned about getting sued by the idiot test rider. Wonder how insurance works in that regard? I'm going to email my insurance agent and ask.

How did the test rider react when your buddy told him he owned the bike?

Betcha he's scared and that bike will be for sale on CL within 3 months.

My first bike had all of 53 miles on it. Got it for a song since the original owner did basically this (although not nearly as bad a crash, just a lowside). Got the bike checked out, confirmed it was mechanically sound, rode it for 10k miles and sold it for what I paid. :thumbup

Ask me about my B-1-D
Um, sadly, I have personally crashed on a test ride, bought the bike, and enjoyed it for many years after
