heads up Southbay barfers, its gonna be kicking off at 8:45 A.M.Why should you care? because it will be a rolling road block at 30 to 40 mph in the fast lane and you cannot pass it, the line is estimated to be around 200+ cars.

So either leave now or work from home.If you drive for living, bring a book and something to pee into....:laughing:laughing

I couldn't find a link of the route, if anyone reads this, post it....

PS basically, its 17>85>87

It was already a sight to behold this morning witnessing the motor and patrol units making their way down from Marin and Sonoma.

A sad state of affairs. It's really too bad the perp didn't get taken out in some other way years earlier with no one else getting hurt. Some people just don't belong on this planet.

I ride past HP Pavillion on my commute, and there was a huge turnout of officers, SJFD, and the general public for the memorial.

Yea, I saw a road construction sign on my way home from work yesterday going S. bound hwy 17 from SJ to SC.The sign was warning of delayed traffic from 4-6p.m. S. hwy 17. I thought "Oh no biggie...road construction and I'll just split to the front".

Then I saw this post and thought "Oh...wah, wah, wah". Wow traffic is gonna be messed up and I don't think it would go over too well splitting that?

It will be the return trip back to SC apparently.

...I don't think it would go over too well splitting that?

Information quoted from a different thread:

From the Merc:

The procession is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. on Ocean Street at the Boardwalk and arrive in San Jose sometime after 10 a.m. But a procession of that many vehicles traveling at 30 mph in a single lane could take longer.

The CHP will not allow motorists to use other lanes to pass the convoy of cars and buses on highways 17, 85 and 87.

California Highway Patrol spokesman D.J. Sarabia warns that the biggest impact may occur after the service, when the procession makes its way back to Santa Cruz just as the afternoon commute begins around 3:30 or 4 p.m.

"We are asking everyone to be really, really patient," he said. "Both coming over in the morning and going back in the afternoon. The return trip could be really brutal."

For the traveling public, the message is this: Expect delays and avoid Highway 17 and other parts of the route if you can.

"I am taking an earlier than usual Highway 17 bus in the morning," said commuter Brittany Overbeck. "With the funeral procession, people either need to get on the road before 8:30 a.m. or plan on taking alternate routes and still leave earlier than usual."

The CHP advises drivers to avoid Highway 9 and Soquel-San Jose Road, and not to park on overpasses. Those who need to get from the Santa Cruz area to San Jose are advised to take Highway 129 from Watsonville east to 101 north.

I forgot about it and it caught me off-guard on the way to work. I was going NB85 when the first of the procession was transitioning from SB85 to NB87. It was a mess because they blocked off any access to 87, so all those commuters were backed up into the freeways and backing up the nearest exits trying to get around. NB85 was sluggish all the way to 17 because everybody was rubbernecking, hundreds of patrol cars on SB85, it was quite a sight.

Re: ^^^ KPIX 5 news literally said "(someone) used the opportunity , knowing that a lot of officers will be attending [the memorial]." . Well maybe now you know why people might still do that. But yeah, whoa

Wait, people still do that? I thought that was a crime that was nearly impossible to get away with these days.

The CitiBank on Saratoga Sunnyvale Ave in Saratoga was knocked over twice a year for like 4 years by (they suspect) the same guy. They still haven't caught him.

The owner of my company owns the building; we were using the empty office space next door to store computer equipment for a major company-wide upgrade. Some of my co-workers were at the wrong place at the wrong time; driving a big box van out from behind the bank just as a swarm of cops arrived on the scene. They were all arrested at gunpoint and released later that day. We still tease them about being hardened criminals. :laughing

My coworkers said they nearly hit a cyclist with a backback who loosely fit the description of the robber; he was peddling his heart out down the alley in the other direction and got out clean.

Long story short: yes, successful bank robberies still happen.

So, let me get this right.

Two cops get shot.

The perp is killed.

The cops honoring their 'brothers' is more important than public safety and thus endangered the saftey of the public, not just by closing off massive sections of public roads, but also by allowing this to occur?

Oh, and who paid for the procession? Taxpayers?

Seems to me, when you become a cop, you understand that bad people with firearms are going to sooner or later, pop off shots at you, right?

Why is ok for cops to shirk they're duty, at great taxpayer expense?

It's not.

Shame on this department. The so-called honor of cops is not more important than their job, protecting the public's safety and enforcement of law.
