People seem to take their bikes on commute trains anyway :|

I've been on rush hour trains where bicyclists get pissed that they can't shove that 5th bicycle into a standing room only train. Thanks for getting chain grease all over my pants dickhole. :mad

"Responding to input from some customers following our first pilot, BART is changing one rule during the new test: no bikes will be allowed in the first three cars of each train during commute hours (7 am to 9 am and 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm). This gives more options for those who want to avoid bikes all together. For safety reasons, at no time are bikes allowed in the first car."

Guess I know which cars to get in this week :x

Yes it's a good idea to restrict the bikes to certain cars. Seems a plan that will work, and everybody is happy.

i take bart with my bike a lot during the winter but it's oak to pleasanton- not exactly packed cars...for going into the city on rush hours, i dunno why they don't just have a dedicated bike car or two and that way the khaki crew can keep their pleated attire clean and crisp.

BART says they don't have any train cars to spare for dedicated bike cars, but that would be the best way. Like it was said, it works for Caltrain.

Yet, I have not seen a good rack method yet for bikes. Caltrain has a the pile of bikes secured with a bungee. VTA has racks that are too high, not enough space and they scratch your rims.

Tri-Met MAX in Portland has the bike hook that blasts anyone over 5'6" square in the forehead and takes away all the standing space when someone puts a bike there.
