Proposed changes to the 450 classes??

So. Since my current info is FB-based, I am trying to take it with a grain of salt (or a whole salt shaker if need be). The thread that I read was from a source I consider reliable, regarding making some switch-a-roos to the 450 classes. A motion to move the crip-trips out to their own class? Based on what I read, not a 450 class, but a “if-you-have-four-and-only-use-three” class. Really? Is shit broke that I am blissfully unaware of??

I just started racing my (former) R6 as a 450 the last round, and after three-ish seasons of racing on the R6 and a zillion track days on the R6, that was the most.fun.ever. EVER. As a chick that wasn’t interested in a smaller bike, this is the ideal “medium” teeth) sized bike for me, and frankly I think there is huge potential for other women who are kinda caught in between.

So, while I am a new convert to the 450-awesomeness, I am very interested in why we would need to seperate anything into (yet another) class?? Someone give me the 411. The intel. The scoop. The skinny. Or, since it’s off-season & most of us are bored, make something up, but for the love of moto’s, don’t f-around with the fo-fiddies!!!!:hail

While mostly the case, the kawi 400’s can also currently race in the 450 classes. So it seemed one of the concerns was that this would push them out...and then the question comes up AGAIN of where do they fit. I certainly don’t have a problem with the 400’s in the 450 class, and I haven’t seen enough of them out there to merit their own class (at least not yet?).

One of AFM’s biggest problems IMO is that they want to find a class for every motorcycle. If Ninja 400s don’t fit in a class, then people should stop trying to race them. There are still plenty of RC390s, R3s, CBR300Rs, and Ninja 300s out there to race.

I asked this question in another thread and never really got a satisfactory answer, but as written the Ninja 400s seen to fit fine into numerous classes: FIII, LW Twins, 250 SBK, 350SS. I can't seem to get an answer as to why they can't just run in the classes that they are legal for, and were instead tech-bulletin'd up to a higher class against multi-cylinder bikes with a displacement advantage.

The Ninja 400 has the potential to become one of the most popular race bikes in America. It needs a class, and it does not belong with the cripple triples. 250s are dying/dead, and a 300-389cc class would be well used. None of the list of bikes that you mentioned are going to be competitive against the 400s, outside of maybe the RC390.

The AFM has always, correctly, tried to provide at least one class for any bike anyone wanted to race. That's its job.
