proper "sound" when downshifting with clutch pulled?

Today, i was going about 50. i pulled in the clutch because i saw that the light had just turned red. i started clicking down to get it into first and figured i'd coast to a stop.

from 4th to 3rd it clicked into place. from 3rd to second, it made a "Krrrrr" sound, as if the clutch wasnt engaged enough (i had it pulled fully in) and when i slowed down a bit more, the indicator displayed correctly and it clicked into place.

i dunno if thats normal, but from what i understand, pulling in the clutch will completely disengage the gears,and you should be able to shift freely. so why wasnt i able to shift freely? Unless, of course, theres still some part of the disengaged clutch that is based on current speed or engine speed, but to me it seems like something isnt engaging enough.

EDIT: also, i know my kickstand sensor or neutral gear sensor (if there is such a thing) is faulty. even if the bike is in neutral i cant start it with the kickstand down, but i can start it with the kickstand up and then put the stand down while its in neutral and it stays on. Another weird quirk i noticed is that today i clicked all the way down into first but the indicator displayed second. i gave it another couple kicks and it didnt click or anything but then the indicator started saying first like it was supposed to. wtf

Its possible you fell between two gears

When shifting like that, rather than letting the clutch out between each gear, I try not to shift into the lower gears until the speed is lower. It's just smoother (eg. don't shift into 1st until you get below 10mph)

If your going to pull the clutch in and coast to a light just pull it in and wait till you get almost all the way stopped to go down into first. GSXRs have a pretty loud gearbox but since most bikes have a wet clutch, there are a lot of factors that contribute to the clutch. Check the tension and make sure the lever doesnt have a bunch of play. I think 2-3mm is about what most call for. Also, make sure you have enough oil in the bike and if you use synthetic make sure the bike is warm because that thicker consistency makes things sound and feel different when it is cold. Other than that, make sure the shift shaft is adjusted properly and goes through the gears smooth and equal

i'll keep that in mind. i actually liked the idea of shifting down as the speed matches. logically, it makes the most sense becaues then if the light turns green im already in the gear i need to be rather thanscrambling to shift up again to the right gear and then rev matching.

theres barely any play on the clutch and theres plenty of oil. i just bought it and dumped 1200 into it getting it serviced to make sure everything was OK and safe. normally you'd just do that kind of checkup yourself since for the most part its just a visual inspection and a fluid check but im pretty green and this bike was in AWFUL condition when i bought it. its good to go now though.

How do i check the shift shaft to make sure its adjusted properly? I dont mean "how do i take the bike apart", i mean what am i looking for in terms of visuals?

Incorrect. It's ideal to let the clutch out each time between gears. You can usually go down two without a clunk. 2nd to first will almost always clunk.
