Product Review: GIVI case and rack

I decided after a year of putting it off to finally spring for a Givi system on my nighthawk 250.

After spending a few months on craigslist searching for a used case, I found a system for a bandit. The case was a bit large, but I got it anyway.

48 or 52 Liter case(still not sure)

I had to purchase a rack for the nighthawk, instead of ordering it online(for a small discount) I went to my friends at Scuderia West(thanks Guys!), who got the rack in within the week.

The case is essentially water proof and holds a lot of stuff. I am pleased with it. It is also very sturdy.

The rack was a bit of a pain to fit, It took me a week of tweaking to get it fit right. The rack is also not as sturdy as I would have hoped.

All in all I am very pleased with the system and would buy it again, and will if I buy a new bike.

Advantages: Can still put my soft saddlebags on for big grocery runs, security, easily removable case

Disadvantages: Fully loaded with heavy stuff makes the bike less stable, can't use helmet lock

As in, I would rather ...
for the longest time I told myself I would never get a top case. Finally did before a road trip last year. For a daily ridden, or ones only transportation, there is nothing more useful, IMO. The 42+ liter Givis can hold a helmet or 2, so if the case is empty (or nearly so) you can lock your helmet in the case. I can get my rather large jacket and helmet in my topcase if its empty.

Top cases REALLY work well on WeeStroms especially, or any other bike (EG, BMW GS) which has a "cargo rack" on the back already...

The topcase anchors REALLY strongly compared with the Givi tubecases (its just a baseplate connected onto the exsiting cargo-rack), and the lines of the bike are such that the topcase doesn't look nearly so bad.

I miss the topcase on the VFR (it doesn't really mount right with the high-mount pipe, so it ended up breaking the mount-points).

I love the Givi product short of some unattractive styling ques on their sidecases.

I have had their top case on my Concours. I put a full 3 bag set up on my CBR600F4 and recently bought an SV650 kit on the Ebay that I did some creative engineering for my Duke II.

Be forewarned Givi does not use stainless steel and their racks rust can break with all your stuff in them.
