Posthumously Managing Your Digital Footprint

I personally don't believe in an afterlife. How I'm perceived after I'm gone doesn't really bother me. If I'm remembered well, great! :thumbup If not: :twofinger

All I hope for is that online and offline my death is more of a celebration than sad times. If I have the money I'm leaving it to friends and family with the stipulation that they must go to Vegas and party for the weekend.

Last night we heard news that a good friend of ours has passed and that got me thinking a little about our digital footprints; the texts last shared, posts on Facebook, little nibbles of thoughts sprinkled around the binary expanse.

How do you expect to manage your identity and the perception of who you were when you're gone? Is there a legacy you care about?

Don't really care about my digital footprint after I'm gone. Hell I barely care about it now.

Similarly was told the story of a person who had died. Someone wanted to contact them only to find out they died few years ago. Its good they found out and also sad to find out.

On another tack noticed how online presence is temporary. Less then ten years as companies that hosted the webpages, close them. From free webpages, guestbooks, discussion forums to social media. First off the direct urls then removal from archives.

Cause like the sand silicon integrated circuits are made. Is renewed by the winds and waves.

As a photographer I have a large foot print but it is set up for first the wife then the kids if they want to, other than that I do not care.
