My rescue Lab-mix, Bo. Had to rescue this sucker, great dog. Still has some issues being a bit scared of strangers, but not agressively scared at all. Love him to death. The only thing I say to someone getting a dog....well, the only two things.....first, make sure you are ready, especially if you are single....having a dog will change your life...not always for the better. Second, always try to adopt. When I got Bo, about 4 years ago, he was on the "short list" for being disposed of. Lots of kennels and foster homes are overcrowded.....help one of these guys that has never been given a fair shake!!!!!

That's funny, because my friend had two cattle dogs and they were mellow as well. When everyone was saying "Cattle dogs are a lot of work", I would just remember my friends dogs as chill. Monty isn't bad.....but he'll let you know when he's bored (must be the collie side).

Like people, there is no GOLDEN RULE to dogs and personalities.....only basic traits that have been specifically bred into the dogs for their intended purpose. No guarantee that your cattle dog will be a spaz.....but they were bred to be high-energy and very goal driven....so chances are if you want a mellow lapdog that a cattle dog might be a tough platform to start from.

Kinda like a bike.......just cause you ride a Goldwing does not mean you can't go to the track.....if you wanted a trackbike when you went out shopping and ended up riding a wing home...well, you are probably betting too much against the breed! :teeth

I actually found the little guy as a stray in Morgan hill last July, he was 9 weeks old, half starved and scared as hell. Took me almost 30 minutes to finally coax him out from underneath a car. Was originally just going to find a home for him as my shepherd ignored him, but on the second morning I woke up to the first pic and they have been inseparable since......The big guy is Zeus, the little one is Apollo

Here was my German Shepherd (named Dozer), as a youngster, last year (unamused by my camera).

Our lovely killer pitbull! Hahaha!

:( just checked with my apartment complex today, no pit breeds, pit mixes, or anything remotely smelling of pit. So, no Staffordshire Terrier for me :( no Rots either, but Boxers are A-ok. And I ran into a random neighbor with an 85 lb german shephard...but I can't have a 35 lb staffie :(
