I am slow!
looks like lots of work with the swingarm/single shock ... are those Virago parts ...?

awesome bike! :thumbup

Not sure what parts you’re referring to but absolutely no parts from virago we’re used. Monoshock set up is 100% custom with rear shock itself from 06 R1.

Sweet 100% custom work, super-impressed ... :ride

I haven’t documented every step but here is a picture to give you an idea.
The only stock parts that are left on the bike are engine, front part of the frame and rear wheel.

any tire clearance issues?
didstance require short show/camber plates, etc?
wut about speed bumps, driveways,
& other practical considerations?

She’s a runner. 77 RD400. Not quite finished as I’d like to upgrade to a Vape CDI and a Zeel. Since this pic, I’ve added some shorty carbon cans and Hagon shocks.

It was definitely a fun project. So incredibly different than anything modern. And it’s just rowdy enough to where you think you’re doing big things (even if you’re really not haha). And yes, the sound is delicious.

So I had to face the fact I am just not riding the Norton that much up here. I love it, and don't want to part with it, but I decided to non-op it (and a few other bikes) this year instead of paying the damn $130 to register it.
I finally got around to mothballing her today. Full service, valve adjustment, clean the carb (yes, singular), fresh oil and filter, gearbox oil, deep cleaning, pulled the battery and fogged the cylinders, new plugs. All in all I spent about 8 hours going through her, retorqueing, polishing, etc.

When the time comes I'll put
the battery back in with fresh gas and be ready to roll.

Goodnight beautiful, I'll be lifting the cover to see you often.

Sigh.

Thanks all.
She's a keeper.

I'm mothballing my 1966 cb450 hardtail now (pics will have to wait a week) and also freshening up my wife's NT650 (now 700) Hawk GT. Full service, repaint, new tires, suspension refresh, so it is road ready as I originally built it as a bit of a rat bike 10 years ago.

.Welp, got around to mothballing vintage bike #2, 1966 cb450 hardtail.
Yes, I know the 66 is a valuable k0 bike, but this one had the battery box cut out of the frame so there was no restoring it, plus 6" over forks and a bunch of other 1970s chopper mods when I got it for $75 20+ years ago.
At first I made the custom hardtail and raked it out to a long and low chopper, it lived like that and went to Vancouver and back before the original 4 speed blew up.
When building a new 5 speed engine for it I decided to turn it into a bobber, with scrambler DNA. Here is how it sits now with the 6" over forks holding a pair of clipons, just because they can, and work great.

Older pics of print photos are from the original construction.
