Poon vs. Tang, a feel-good story

No, it isn't what you think.

CN: Douchebag lawyer decides that he's unhappy with wedding photos. Threatens photographer and tries to extort him for $15,000 plus refunding fees. Photographer reaches out to Gary Fong, and justice prevails.

At stake it seems was setting a precedent of holding photogs liable for product their clients were unhappy with. It never went to trial, so law students will be forever deprived of studying Poon vs. Tang.

Good on Gary Fong for stepping up and helping the guy. And he filed a complaint against Douchebag Lawyer, who was disciplined by the Washington Bar.

Agreed - he did get what amounted to a slap on the wrist, but I have a feeling that the story will follow him for quite a while given the attention it got thanks to Fong.

Not surprised at all. I have friends that shoot weddings. People go absolutely fucking nuts about their "precious moments."

A friend of mine kind of went through the reverse. He and his fiance had wedding photos taken, and they weren't 100% thrilled. The fiance photoshopped a few of them more to her liking, and then received threats from the photographer about copyright infringement, etc.

I agree with the end of the G.Fong's story "It’s so ridiculous that if it wasn’t real, you’d think the whole thing was completely made up."

I did think that the printed letter was like nearly made up.. :wtf

What the shit is this...
So thankful that in my years of wedding photography, I never ran into any really bad clients. A couple that were difficult to work with, yes, but never a full-blown bridezilla or anything. Glad that Gary Fong went to bat for them, he's the real deal. :thumbup

There should be some accountability for lawyers who abuse their power and threaten craptastic lawsuits.

As far as Poon vs Tang goes, i saw something similar on Cinemax last night.

Not as fast as I look.
What a terrible attorney. There is tons of precedent that you cannot sue for "quality of work", if the contract was materially satisfied. Try this with any "mechanic lien" on real property and you will get zip.

Ask Ernie, he was a contractor, and never lost a dime despite his work. J/K buddy. :p
