I’ve been OBSESSED with my search for my next bike for months. My gf said get it over with and go get something soon, hehe. Had my bike for since last June and I’m looking for more power. I’m having a hell of a time deciding what to get. No, I haven’t test ridden or really sat on any of these except the MT-10. It felt big, opened my legs up. Maybe I’d get used to it. I’ve always wanted a sport bike but per the advice of another forum I went with the old used SV650. I love this bike and don’t want to sell it anytime soon. Love it and really don’t know any better as I haven’t ridden other bikes except the old thing at the safety course.

I ride mostly for fun, mix of city/highway/rural/twisties.

Cheaper would be better but I am willing to spend 12-13k if it makes the ride that much better? On one hand I want to do a smaller step up for obvious reasons but I also wonder if I should just step up to the 150hp level.

MT-09
MT-10
Street Triple RS
GSXS-750
GSXS-1000
GSXR-750

I know I know....I really should go sit on the bikes and test ride whatever I can.

Open for suggestions.

Thanks for any thoughts!

Mike

From that list I would own a Speed 3 RS. It is the gentleman's tuono. I have a Tuono so obviously I vote for that too. Had an SV for 11 years. The MT/FZ 10 is a step between the SV and a full supernaked like a Tuono, SDR or Speed 3. It's obviously down on power and isn't as sharp as the others. Feels ok at everything, good to great at nothing. Ridden the Monster 1200 S and R. Both solid bikes as well.

Not considering used bikes? Tons of those that would be good for what you want.

For example I see this S2R1000 on craigslist
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/mcd/d/citrus-heights-2004-ducati-monster-s2r/6987485926.html

Or the previous model str

Not trying to push you to save money if you don't want to. Somebody's gotta buy new bikes so I can buy used ones.

Used bikes have the advantage though that you can usually ride them before you buy.

Out of the bikes listed

Street Triple RS

Or

Fz09

Ducati Hypermotard SP if you want to go full retard

I'm not a fan of liter bikes on the street but to each their own. I have been on that GSXS 1000 and it is a beast. Just like the snow it was fun to visit but not to live with

I think the 765 RS is probably going to be the most complete and well balanced on your list

Ah thought it said speed 3 RS. Seems to be lots of used street triples for sale.. same with the Yamahas. Agreed you should be able to find one you can take for a ride. Never ridden any GSXS's and haven't ridden a gsxr750 in forever so I couldnt say much about it except that they are great bikes for what they are.

Rolls with it...
Z900... Or wait and see if the new supercharged Z1000 becomes a palatable reality.

(I like my Z900 a lot.)

Are we having fun yet?
I voted for the GSXS-1000 thinking it was the GSXR-1000. If you're at all interested in a sport bike go for a literbike to get it out of your system lest you'll always be wondering what it feels like. I had a ZX-10R early on and put the most miles on it among the bikes I've owned, until I decided my body couldn't take that sport riding position for long distance anymore. After a while even a literbike didn't feel fast enough at the low end with stock gearing (that's why many riders change to lower gearing) but way too fast once it's revved up, that's I changed to twins for more low rpm grunt.

Tracer 900 GT.

Ah, that is not a bad recommendation!

I might have to re-think it. TBH I don't want saddle bags on there all the time, but it would be great to have a set up ready incase I want to transport some stuff. A backpack keeps things limited.

I could easily get a Tracer 900 GT....thanks again for the reminder. :)

Aprilia Tuono V4.

I haven't researched that bike one bit but I've seen the name.

After a quick check, it looks SWEET but maybe at bit too much for what I need. Also I'm afraid of European products especially Italy. My business dealt with them on a huge job with a pretty damn big job and the QC was horrid. Half the stuff was defective out of the crate.

However.....I'm not totally opposed to the more extreme stuff. Just less likely. I'm afraid a really fast sport bike will kill me. And I suppose all the bikes on my list can do that. But I'll sleep on it, hehe.

Nice feedback. Yea, I need to research the Monster 1200 but the rest of your post makes sense.

Appreciate it.

I suppose that part of this decision making process is to determine how much all of this is worth to me. I'm far from wealthy but if I want to stretch my budget I can probably go with a pricier bike.

A big part of me wants a quick fix with a MT-09 but another part just says step it up and get it over with. I can always change bikes if I'm not happy I guess.

Thanks for listening everyone. :D

The Ducati looks good! The used bike thing is temping as heck, but I'm more inclined to go with new this time.

I want extremely reliable at this time and peace of mind hence the new bike (I don't always do new as seen my by bike that was bought in June 18). ABS is a big deal for me as well.

And you bring up a good point, that maybe I should try harder to ride a few bikes before I get something. But it doesn't seem like any bike on the list would be much worse than my current bike......got to start somewhere right?....

Do yourself a favor. Test ride an Aprilia V4 - Tuono or RSV and then think about how you feel about Italian bikes. If they stir but you are a bit concerned about Aprilia ownership, then you can look at the Ducatis.too If you can hold out they will have the street fighter out with a V4 next year. Pricy but that should be a wicked machine. I was in the market for a sport tourer or perhaps adventurer tourer. Then I rode the Tuono V4 1000. Couldn't stop thinking about that motor and chassis. It was just as the 1100s were out coming out. I read about some of the problems that were addressed on the 1100 and that it had a 20hp boost in the mid range over the 1000 so I saved my self several thousand from not buying a GS, RT or MTS and got the Tuono. I still smile in my helmet when ride it almost 4 years after purchase. I had my SV for 11 years and wish I still had it. But I plan to keep my Tuono just as long or longer.
