Playstation Vue

Ive cut the cord, I only do Netflix and Amazon Prime Video right now, but there are days that I truly want live TV.

I don’t watch too many shows live, so DVR availability is a must have. I’ve heard a lot of great things about PlayStation Vue, and was wondering what the BARF hive mind thinks.

Here’s a link to a recent comparison that I’ve read on
Tom’s Guide

Any notes from current subscribers? What plan are you on? I’m thinking of picking up a sub to the lowest level plan at $45. The next level up is at $50.

Why not just online? Many TV stations now have free web portals to watch TV. Most even have a mobile app.

I wouldn't use the Vue cause of PS4 gui bias but thats me.

Cause plenty of folks don't want to have 35 apps and don't want to watch TV on their computer.

I've been running Roku(s) for a few years now and have been happy with Sling, but I have a few add on packages.

Also have Hulu, Netflix and Prime.

Because most apps are separate and suck. Using a single app like PS Vue or whatever greatly simplifies the experience. You’d need one for ABC, CBS, Fox , and one for NBC. And you’d likely need at least a log in for each app or a subscription to be able to watch/stream TV. CNN will give you a few minutes free. It that’s about it, then you have to subscribe somehow, either a free sub or a paid sub. Might as well have in one ball of wax that I can subscribe and unsubscribe to just as easily.

Not to say that individual services like MotoGP streaming is not a part of that, but it’s one less thing I have to manage subscription wise. At that point, you’d be managing subscriptions all over the place. And it’s easy to lose track of what you’re paying for and how you can reduce that payment.

$11 for Netflix
$6 for Hulu more if you go ad free
$8 for CBS
$100+ a year for MotoGP

ABC requires that you have a participating provider like DirectTV or Comcast login. Try clicking on Live Tv on CNN and they want you to get the CNN Go App which requires yet another participating TV provider account. Not what you get when you cut the cord.

I use an Xbox 1 for streaming. One friend pays for Hulu, I pay for Netflix, another pays for Amazon. We all share the accounts and rarely interfere with each other.

I use the Xbox when I'm really bored for games. It also supports 4k blue ray and HDR so it's pretty future proof (5 years or so) at the moment.
