Plated Yamaha WR?

I see that some Yamaha WR450's are able to plated in CA but usually these bikes are 1-3k more than similar non-plated bikes. What about bringing in an out of state WR that has been plated in another state. Would CA accept an out state WR that has been plated and allow the bike be plated with DMV inspection? No, this isn't the 7500 mile issue.

When you do DMV inspection they want to see the 49 or 50 state emissions label.

I thought about this too. I think if you have a title with a plate/valid registration it should slip in real easy (think AAA).

It only works if you get lucky and the LEO misread or ignores the sticker or just doesn't know enough and signs it off. Might be worth the 1K if you really want the plate otherwise you may be stuck with a dirt only bike.

PO Box out of state and use out of state registration here locally "I'm just visiting" excuse? Not quite legit but definitely an opportunity. Just don't get pulled over by the same cop twice.

I second the buy one locally (or within CA). There are many around...can't speak for their overall mechanical quality though. Put a BARF WTB ad, I got an offer for one by a BARFer before I decided a different route. Still wasn't cheap though vs. a non-plated.

You don't have to use the CHP, the DMV will do VIN and emissions label inspections. Newer WR's have a CA offroad emissions sticker as part of their green sticker licensing, you may get lucky and they may confuse that for the 50 state label. Someone could also get a little vinyl printer setup and go full renegade...

Sounds like the 7500 mile thing to me.

If it has less than 7500 miles you will need the CARB 50 state emissions label on it, which it does not have. Has to meet Federal and CA emissions and have labels to prove it, or no CA plate.

But ... I've brought in a NV plated KTM 525 with over 7,500 miles, easy peasy, CA plate. And an OR plated Husaberg with over 7,500 miles, again easy peasy.

I don't know of any state that lets you register a vehicle to a PO Box, although I have only checked Arizona and Utah :teeth please let me know if another state is more friendly :thumbup

You can get a POB on your DL, why couldn't you get registration to it? I haven't done or seen it personally other than the DL info but it seems do-able. Residence vs. mailing address (can be different). Use the POB for mailing and the local wal-mart as your residence.

I've seen tons of DL's that are PO boxes. Maybe a LEO can jump in and inform of if they have seen registration to an address that is a POB.

A UPS store has boxes to rent, this will give you a real street address.
On my third UPS box address, two in Az and now SD.
I did have a POB address in Ca for years, back when I was doing the room mate apt shuffle. It saved me on moving expenses, new checks, DMV address changes, USPS change of address forms.
This was/are my real and legal address, no ties to anything else out of state.

That's right. I had a friend who used these UPS boxes like this and it was seen as an address and suite number. This would work for OOS registrations I would think. Isn't it south dakota that can register virtually anything with 2+ wheels and some lights.

Whatever that means
I had a plated wr450. sure it was fun on the streets but its not a street machine so the maintenance is a pita when doing the kind of mileage you put down in the streets.
