I'm trying to plan out a day trip to santa cruz. my wife wants to see the boardwalk, hang out, spend time together. She's into photography a little bit, just starting out. Im wondering what all we should plan on doing while we're there. budget doesnt really matter, I can save up for it if need be.

Of course head to Crapitola if you want to be a tourist, plus good photo ops. Good spot for food is West End Brewery, good place for beer is Beer Thirty. East and West cliff are always fun to walk, lots of people and beautiful scenery.

Oh man, you'll have a great ride getting there! The roads down that way are fun on a motorcycle, and parking is a whole lot easier than a car...oh wait.
Never mind.

get a chelada and watch the locals walk by as you drink it on a dirty concrete bench. seriously, it's fun.

we recently took the ONeill 1 hr catamaran cruise and it offered some nice photo ops of the boardwalk and harbor from the view of the ocean --> inland.

good beer also can be had at 99 bottles in the pacific garden mall....about a mile walk from boardwalk.

take a nice long walk from boardwalk north all the way to natural bridges beach. great way to spend time together.

visit the university for great pics of redwoods and/or a view to the ocean.

have fun!

Go on a weekday if you can, the place gets pretty packed on weekends especially if the weather is hot.

Tonight we ride
I like Natural Bridges State Beach. The monarch butterflies don't start arriving til mid October, but the place is still pretty scenic.

Coffee at Pergolesi, corndog hot links and deep fried artichoke hearts at the Boardwalk, hanging out at the beach, and maybe an hour in the hot tubs at Tea House Spa downtown sounds like a pretty sweet day or two to me.

DO NOT GO TO THE BOARDWALK.

It's pretty lame. SC locals do not go there much, if at all.

I can give you plenty of good bar/restaurant recommendations if you want. There are lots of shows going on at The Catalyst and Moe's Alley if you're into that. Great places to hike north of UCSC if you are into that. Best (and least crowded) beach in SC is Natural Bridges, but I prefer New Brighton in Capitola.

SC locals don't around this time because the park is closed for operations (rides and many of teh concessions are closed). You can still walk into the Boardwalk and take pics and chill. As of now it's on a weekends-open schedule. Peep their website for more info.

And you're wrong locals totally go to the BW. It's one of the few things you can do here that doesn't involve spending wads of dough, and It's one of the few places in SC where you can bring your own booze, and drink it openly, sit and people watch all day on the premises.

Also the better beaches aren't really in SC, they are typically just south. Bout a 15min drive with no traffic.
