Ok, looking for a few places that would sell engagement rings. At the moment just interested in looking for a place with a huge selection. The GF likes the antique look when it comes to this.
Preferably in the city or east bay.

If I pop the question, I'll post pics soon after!!!!!

Ok, Patrick, I'm not that poor, but thanks anyways. Plus, she'd kick my ass if she knew it was off of ebay!! :laughing :laughing

Tiffanies, I'm not that rich. Looking to spend about 5k for everything.

congrats!!

the problem with the diamond is, you have to buy it from a respectable place to guarantee the quality you are getting, and respectable places charge their (un)fair share.

I know a couple of expensive jewlery stores in San Diego, but I don't think that will be much help to you.

so, who is the lucky guy?? :twofinger :laughing :laughing

p.s. it is good to see you on the board again.

Another one (is almost) biting the dust, I got engaged last x-mas

Ravi has all the ring hook-ups or I have a diamond broker who's pretty cool in san bruno.

I can e-mail you her info if you want

almost congrats :banana

Everyone will have their own opinion and preference on where/who is best to buy from so I will not add to that. My advice is getting a certified and mapped diamond.

1. Buy the diamond when it is loose and have it set in the ring you want. Not that you will be an expert but they cannot hide flaws on a loose diamond. You will not be swayed by the band only the rock. If the diamond was certified and mapped you know where the flaws in the stone are and can make a judgment on how acceptable they are.

2. Size sounds the best...I have a 2 karat ring... however color and clarity make the stone look better. Quality over quantity. The less color and the greater clarity the more expensive the rock will be.

If you do "pop" the question put as much though into where and how you do this as you do the ring purchase. You would be surprised how much "traction" in the relation ship you will gain if you do this well.

Best of luck!

The Gift Center / Jewelry Mart kicks ass ... it's utter chaos sometimes. When I was buying a watch, a trip up there was a good way to get an education / exposure very quickly. Maybe the same will be true for diamonds?

Good luck, almost-congratulations!

DUDE TIFFANY'S IS A GODDAMN RIP OFF!!!

You are gonna pay at least 2x as much for the same quality diamond and ring there. I guess that box, you know, "THE BOX" that all the girls go OOOH about is worth a few thou.

Here's my suggestion, you need to decide on your budget. Then you can decide on the quality. Then, the last thing is the size, which is set by the combination of your budget and the quality.

Then you go buy a Tiffany's box on E-bay and woot woot

"Design Jewelers" is a good place. Overall, the place has a HUGE selection and some screamin' deals. I think you either have to be a jewelry retailer, be in the retail business, or have an appt. with a jeweler in the building.
