Friend at work and I came up with the idea of using inmates as pitchers at batting cages instead of predictable pitching machines for a more realistic, unpredictable batting experience.

Unless the Japanese have already come up with a robotic pitching machine that can pitch curve balls, sinkers, etc. (I would think since they love baseball and robotics)

why inmates? i really doubt that paying someone minimum wage is more expensive than dealing w/ inmates and the prison system.

If I were an inmate pitcher I'd just throw the ball at people's faces until they made me stop.

This was my thought approach as well, but from the hitters point of view. I would expect they would just throw at me.

Have you ever pitched before? It's a little harder than train a monkey...

And then when I got bored, i'd claim in was forced to do it or too long thus dveloped tendinitis making me unable to work for the rest of my life. Disability claims aplenty


OP the beat major league pitchers, the cream of the crop top notch starters, only throw about 100 pitches in a game every 5 days...quite a few more with warmup and stuff but still, a fairly small amount. Paint a Joe schmoe minimum wage to be a poor imitation of a machine is still more expensive that letting a machine do it

Inmates? Do you know how many inmates you'd have to go through before you found one that could throw a decent splitter?

BTW, even an athlete can't throw that many pitches without getting arm trouble. No way they could throw the volume of pitches required for a batting cage.

I prerty much already said that, it is but one of many reasons to balk at this idea

I'm going to guess the best idea would be to strike this whole project.
I have no idea how you could pen the pitch.
There's just so many bases to cover and things that bar you.
If you're locked in, maybe just pay your dues.
