I made a comment about this series and noticed it hasn't got it's own.

I am thoroughly enjoying everything about it. The story, acting, directing, filming...it really is tops in my book right now.

Yeah, they did a good job of character backstory/creation tho it was a bit tedious.

The past few episodes have been edge of the seat worthy.

I used to watch the old RBurr version with my mom on COFY20 when she would get home from work back in the day. She really likes murder mystery shows/movies. I'm not sure how she's going to react to the soft porn and don't know why it has to be included in seemingly every show/movie these days. If it doesn't create a plot point why even bother with it?

I've seen a bit of an episode of that. The one where she tells her group/coworkers (?) that she was raped.

I need to start that show from episode one. Don't have any trouble with the lingo tho. My ear tunes to Queen's English fairly easily tho I couldn't understand a damn thing Pitt's piker said in Snatch.

We love it at the Bay Arean household.

And I finally got to see Gretchen Mol (his ex-wife)! I kept seeing her name in the credits and wondering. I loves me some Gretchen Mol!!

We watched Penny Dreadfull during the run-up and seeing two 30s era shows with truly great production values has been fun. Both had characters that were supposed to be like Aimee Semple McPherson so that whole angle has been pretty interesting as well.

Being a NorCalian, I had never heard of Angels Flight so that part was weird at first. An office mate tells me they bulldozed the hill down or something.

Anyway, I think the acting is great and its super compelling. Highly recommended for COVID escapism.

And, if you noticed, they finally brought the fabulous musical theme in at the end of this last episode. Just playing with the chords for now not the full melody. I kept wondering about that. But the introduction of Hamilton Burger and Perry's "elevation" were the cue, I guess.

Rolls with it...
Really enjoying it!

After "The Americans" every time I hear Rhys with his natural accent I'm surprised...

Anybody else notice the judge in the trial is the actor that played "Max Headroom" back in 80's? (Matt Frewer)

Yeah, that was the first thing I said to my wife when he was introduced into the show.

Her response was that she will never be able to separate Lord Farquaad from John Lithgow's voice.

Who do you think dunnit? I mean besides Ennis? Who was the mastermind?

Spoiler(?):

My money is on Birdy McKeegan spilling the beans on the stand implicating the millionaire Baggerly. With a name like "Birdy" who else is going to sing?

We just started watching season 4 (bought 4-6 at Wally World the other day). B&W, almost everybody smokes (except Della Street who I had a serious crush on back in the day).

Never heard of the new version.

New version is a serial on HBO. Eight parts in the first season (2020) with Matthew Rhys (The Americans and Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood) in the lead role.

Imagine an episode of the Burr series drawn out over eight hours with a much darker undercurrent and all the messy/complex life stuff that comes with humans in general.

Is this a breakout performance from Rhys or expected based on previous stuff (which I havent seen)? Quality acting IMO.

Same quality I've seen from Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. I never watched The Americans. The acting is top notch, IMO, along with the directing, cinematography, sets, wardrobe. If there were a thing that has made me wonder a bit it has been the automobiles. Sometimes there's a cracked window or some other oddity (again, IMO) that seems out of place on a vehicle that would have been nearly brand new in the period.

HBO has an amazing track record with first seasons of shows IMO - writing, acting, directing, cinematography, etc. But its a crap shoot later, especially by S3 or S4 :laughing

We miss out on a lot of good stuff since we don't have HBO. We don't watch TV enough to pay for it.

The Americans was an excellent show from start to finish, and Rhys was excellent as a character torn between his duty, his mission, his double life immersed in a culture that he was raised to despise but learned to enjoy and all that goes with it, but never wavering from the goals of the missions.

Yeah, that's the truth. I'm hoping that with an IP like Perry Mason, and the clout it has carried for close to a century now, it will continue to draw top notch talent behind the scenes. The actors involved so far are more than capable of carrying their part of the weight in this respect.
