perplexing insurance calculation

Stopped at the insurance agency today to remove the Hyper 1100 from the insurance policy, and add the new GSXR750. I was expecting my insurance to drop, since the cc's and the purchase price are both are lower, but my insurance payment increased by 35% :wtf

I asked the agent why, and she said it is because there is a number/score given to each motorcycle that represents the average cost of repairs for that brand and model. The GSXR 750 had a higher number than the Hyper. Very odd.

What's up with that? :dunno

More squids crash gixxers than Hypermotards.

All else being equal, a sportbike will always be the most expensive to insure.

Yes, Ducatis and BMWs are cheap to insure mainly because older guys don't bin them as much.

yeah, sucks don't it :(

My cbr600rr costs more than 2 bmw's, 1 drz400 and 1 zuma scooter combined.

In addition to the above, spr0tbiles are covered in expensive plastic, making minor low speed offs relatively costly to repair compared to hardier bikes.

The only reason you can even insure a Gixxer these days is because replacement parts can be found on the shoulder of almost any major twisty road in California...

Ooooo, I'll have to go collecting! Since I'm an archaeologist for Caltrans, that will be riiiight up my alley :laughing

Off topic, but, is calling a GSXR a gixxer, sort of like when people call SF "Frisco?":confused

Don't forget about theft, your gixxer is highly more desirable to the common motorcycle thief than your hyper.

I think it would benefit us all to assume no matter what we ride, it's a potential target for thieves. If doodz in Santa Cruz like ratbikes from 1997 then nothing is safe. :laughing

Squids and thieves.......:pirate.
And I thought I was making such a sensible and practical purchase by not going Italian.... pazzo, pazzo.

I need to make a B movie called "Gidget buys a sportbike!":laughing
