Saturday Pit Ho pics
Installment #2 ...
On Saturday I’d intended to ride with Kurt’s goaty gang...back in the day I lived in SLO during my CalPoly years and was looking forward to revisiting some of the area highlights. But somehow between breakfast and “20 minutes” I missed that boat. But all was not lost, Budman's group was soon to depart so I jumped at the chance to ride a different ride today. Now how often do I get a chance like that?
It was a super sweeper day, tried to learned a thing or two about those doggone sweepers…but I still don’t quite get it. Oh well, guess I better keep practicing now and then, maybe it will click one of these days ;-P
Busted into Mark's conversation here, cool hangin witcha, hang loose brah!
This vast plain didn't have many (any?) trees, corners or other sight-blocking obstacles, so covered some ground at a fast clip. Well at least for my usual style this pace was def brisk, and I was amazed to see how much gas the 599 was guzzling. Thanks Butch and Nathan for helping wire up my chain-guard, the bolt apparently bounced out on Friday’s ride at some point. It's still hanging on just fine... yeah I better get that replaced asap.
Enjoyed chatting with alla you cool cats at our pit stops...well-timed, I might add.
Was gonna delete this accidental shot but ended up liking it, even if only to snicker at the handicapped plate...and I'm not telling what his handicap is. ;-O
Some of the guys’ bikes had all the gadgets you could shake a stick at, but at this gas stop in Taft, they whipped out an old-skool paper map to consult on our route. There are times when ya just wanna ride alone, and other times, like this, that it is so nice to leave the route-finding to someone who’s got it all figured out. Let me take this oppty to thank you guys for that. I believe it was a community effort, well-executed.
While you guys were busy route-finding, I was apparently busy scouting out the ice cream opportunities...every day is better if there's ice cream involved, right? Activities to the left and right were well under control, so Frosty King was all mine...and squarely in my sights. Mmmmmmmmm Frosty King me loves me some frosty cone action!
Can haz strawberry-flava cool drippy mess would have to wait for the ride home tho.
We rode and rode for miles, whizzing past oil derricks, carving canyons, and rode up into the high desert and finally into the Angeles Forest lands. We stopped for lunch at a little town not far from Frazier Park, “Pine Mountain Club community”. There was a carnival atmosphere with the annual Lilac Festival weekend underway. Saw an arealist chick doing a ribbon dance, and all manner of interesting arsty and oddball booths…me? I was in search of ice cream, as usual, and of course.
Looking for a shorter bathroom line I came across this old VW and it literally made me laugh out loud (yes LOL). I dunno who is this M Jaynne, but it was a very sparkly and obviously custom paint job, and it reminded me of when I was a kid and my folks had a similar (but even older) bug -- me and my lil sis would crawl up into that little cubby hole under the rear window and chill out and watch the world go by. We loved it…I’m sure today folks would have a spazz attack if you put a kid in there…but we survived just fine.
All of us piled onto the pizzeria's deck and enjoyed a real relaxing lunch, a perfect shady spot in the pines.
Better angle maybe…good eats, good peeps!
Budman is that your "come hither" smile or what? ;-)
Tried to get a snap of everyone there, credit where credit is due…high country survivors that we were.
We were mesmerized by the iPad app used here as a helicopter controller...Nathan kept us entertained at many stops with this dual-camera-laden flying rig buzzing to n fro.
And someone's gotta get a shot of the other photographers...
We just finished teasing him so hard about the pizza (just out of the oven) being bloody hot ... and with his blistered tongue he took it all in stride -- what a good sport!!
Wish I had a decent shot of the tight twisty section of 229 known as Rossi’s driveway, that slice was just so nice I just had to savor it TWICE. I mighta gotten a little greedy there for a minute--it was just so VERY FINE.
Da-yummmmmmmm! Accent on the YUMMM-- if they have a track like that somewhere – people, please let me know. Frugal as I am, yes, I’d pay to ride that kinda road for hours on end! Ueber-fun curvy bank-a-licous, nicely crowned, fresh-n-lovely full grippage pavement, and dash of vertical, it was just pure playtime pleasure!
Ya can't say we didn't thoroughly enjoy the ride that day. :love
Sheesh, I sure did.
