Parking ticket question

Got a $50 parking ticket for being more than 18 inches from the curb (I was 19") :rolleyes

The irony? I was parked inside the delineated box for parking.

:dunno

I can't find anything in the CVC about delineated parking spaces.

Yea I need a custom ruler :laughing.

I just figured as long as I'm within the box I'm good.

Must resist 5,000 pennies in a bucket and youtube video

Some parking violations fall under the CVC, but most are in local muni codes. Maybe look at the local city muni code.

Although it sounds like it was a valid violation, it could possibly be contested successfully with an argument that you (a reasonable person) would assume you were parking legally since the vehicle was entirely within the delineated box for parking.

Yea im going to try and contest it. And the muni code cited isnt published but the 18” rule is part of the CVC so theres that.

I called the captain and nicely pointed out 5 other code violations needing immediate attention in the area other than the distance of caltrans employee tires from the street curb.

I know Im an asshole sometimes i just dont tolerate stupid shit very well.

The new code enforcement hire is young and very ambitious. :laughing

The muni code should be available for anyone to read. When you say it's not published, do you mean it isn't online? There's gotta be a way to get a copy from the city. Maybe the local library has it. :dunno

I got a parking ticket in Manhattan Beach maybe 15 years ago because I was parked on a hill and didn't turn my front wheels. After I saw it I looked around and noticed at least 10 other vehicles on the same side of the street as me also on the hill without their wheels turned properly either. I was the only one with a ticket stuck to the windshield. I was also the only one with out of state plates. Not a very friendly approach to visitors.

My wife got a ticket in SF for not turning the wheels. The funny thing was that the street was so flat, we couldn't work out which way she should have turned the steering.

which is absolute BS

having a fender touch the curb is going to do damage to paint etc over time

From the motorcycle handbook: "Park at an angle of 45 to 90 degrees to the curb with a wheel or fender touching the curb." The Vehicle code is the same.
