Parents visiting Bay Area, looking for recs

Hey dudes, got a question for ya. My parents from South America are coming to visit. I know of all the places they can go around the Bay Area for typical tourism stuff... but I am struggling picking places that my dad would enjoy. He's more into history of the US, especially when it comes to tech. I know he wouldn't care about a bridge or a SF pier or driving hwy 1, but would really like to see NASA stuff, military planes or ships, stuff with historical significance. Are there any places within reasonable driving distance of the bay area (<6hr) that he can see some American history?
Thanks!

There's an aviation museum in Sacramento. It's in the hood and some of the planes aren't in the best shape, but it's not too far and their collection is pretty cool.

Also, there's Sutter's Fort, State Capitol, Rail Road museum, etc. More CA-focused, but it's history and in the US.

Never been to Sac, thanks for the suggestions.

Sutter Fort reminds me that I can take them to Fort Ross to confuse them a bit :teeth

There's a restored Nike Missile site in the Marin Headlands that's open Saturdays 12:30 to 3:30.

Army Core Bay Model in Sausalito, then up to the headlands for the view and old military stuff.

Richmond has The US Hornet and the very cool Rosie The Riveter Monument/museum.

The Railroad Museum in Old Town Sacramento is worth seeing, along with other things to see/experience in Old Town.

if he wants historic ships, Hyde Street is fairly close to Pampanito

That reminds me... cable cars... he'll be fascinated with that. He owns a shop and builds heavy metal structures, pressure vessels, etc, I bet he'll like to try to figure out how that cable works haha

I'm writing all of this down, he'll be pleased :thumbup

A lot of Old Town is a tourist trap, but there are some cool things in the vicinity, like the RR Museum and other shit I suggested.

Also, if you're into cars, the museum formerly known as the Towe Auto Museum is near by. Also, the Crocker Art Museum if they're into that.

But if you're into aircraft, definitely make the trek thru the ghetto to see this:

Well, the RR museum in Sac has or had one of the largest steam engines ever made. I don't think it was the largest, but it was close. That's a big mo-fo pressure vessel. :D

Added RR museum to the list... now my mother is going to hate me lol.... I'll add a Napa wine tour or some like that to keep her happy :laughing

One of the things my dad is insisting is to go to Death Valley, so I might drive him over a weekend, I might get lucky and get to see fighter jets playing over there.
