The other night I was riding home on 101 here in San Luis Obispo around midnight and had an owl swoop down in front of me. I just saw him for a split second with wings full out, and I swerved slightly and hit him with my right side mirror and grip. Not much damage. Are owls attracted to lights? Sorry no pics or video, but it did happen.

No, owls are not attracted to lights. But owls hunt at night and road side rodents are easy prey. Owls fly slow and low so are easily picked off when riding/driving at night.

One came pretty close to me last weekend on I5. Scared the crap outta me, he was almost on top of me when I saw him, middle of the damn night.

Came close last year. On the N bound 101 off ramp at Bellam in San Rafael.
Startled the hell outta me. It came from my left, about 8 o'clock, cut in front o me about 5 feet...
