Landlord called this morning and gave us warning that he is putting the house on the market. He's coming up on Wednesday to make it official. I'm dying to know what the standard amount of time is before I have to be out. 30 days? 6 months? Will start looking for a new place tomorrow. Figured this to be the best place to get an intelligent answer.

30 days if less than a years lease, 60 days if more, unless you live in SF. Then i think you're allowed to live there for free for the rest of your life.

Check the law, he may be required to give you compensation. I got a check for 3 months worth of rent when my apt. in san diego got converted to condos.

I'm in the same boat. 30 days... My landlord said he'd give me some days for free once he gives me the 30 day eviction notice. i.e. if you pay on the 1st of each month, and you have to move out on the 15th, you get 15 days free.

Not sure if the free days is required by law or not.

Kicked mine out a few weeks ago, they were nice enough to let their dog (the one they weren't supposed to have), piss all over the entire house which leaves the house smelling wonderful. How people live like that is beyond me but whatever, coulda been worse i suppose. At least they paid rent on time. Good luck OP, i know getting thrown out of the place you've been living in must really suck. Just business...

Squat!!

Ive been thru the exact same thing before. One time i got a 30 day notice.(my year lease was already up n was on month to month) The other time i got a 60 day notice.

DEMAND a glowing recommendation letter for the inconvenience.

No, sell, in the midst of re carpeting (due to the smell), and repaint.

Markets pretty stupid again, time to sell, anything else is just gambling. What's happening to the OP is probably going to get more and more common in the not too distant future.

Thanks for all the answers, serious and funny all made the day better. I guess I'll see what happens on Wednesday. For the record we keep the place pristine. No pets. No parties. No trash piles. Been here for 5 years. Will definitely make him put in a good word for us to the next land lord.

I own 3 rentals and Ukiah is one of those areas where buying a house and renting it might still pencil out...so how does the current owner know the future owner might not be an investor that might love a good built in tenant?

Here investors are completely out of the market so chances are a renter would have to move.

In Ukiah I wouldn't say that's a certainty.

It's way easier to sell an empty house. No worries about if the tenants are home, if the place isn't spotless etc etc etc.
