Just 11 days after Hewlett Packard Enterprise, part of the firm that created Silicon Valley in 1939, announced it was moving its headquarters from San Jose, California to Houston, Texas, Oracle announced that its headquarters had moved to Austin, Texas from Redwood City, California.

Bay area isn't gonna miss ya, one leaves another will take it's place. Even one doesn't, hopefully housing prices will drop.

Them and HPE are gone (although HPE will retain the SJ office of 1000 employees)

Strange they would even retain that. Sell off all that property to a housing developer for low income housing and make a killing. Everything digital is telework now days. Just have a few contractors in high demand regions.

I think they own that property.

I think they're going hub and spoke, per se. A handful of assigned spaces and then everything else hotel space. So if a team wants to gather, they have a location in the bay area to do so while everyone works remote.

This is what my company is seriously considering. HQ becomes all meeting rooms with the exception of a few permanent on prem employees. Any Bay Area team can book space for team gathering.

Missing the big picture.

CA taxes are crushing for businesses compared to some other States.

Big international business can move away. I would if I was Larry.

Most can’t.

I see this headed towards the PolSink.

I may as well move it now so I can speak my mind.

Good hair .. make another speech how awesome we are. :twofinger

Fuck Oracle.

Bay Area is good enough for them to get started and become a Fortune 100 behemoth but not good enough to stick around and contribute back to?

There is a bigger picture out there you are not seeing.

Major tax base is leaving because.... PolSink reasons.

Potholes are going to get way more expensive soon.

Nonsense, they have been contributing back for 40 years. Nothing wrong with going in a better direction for your organization.

and after Oracle and whatever other big companies go to the new tech mecca in Austin and then THOSE taxes all jump up because reasons, they'll just bail and go on to the next spot.

Huge corporations like that are shitty. Fuck em, replace em with small businesses that actually give a shit about the city they're in.

Let me guess, you do not think Detroit is Detroit's fault?

I'm sure these guys care about the place where they set down roots, but when you are trying to run a business, that only goes so far. :dunno

I have a hard time seeing Texas adopting California style business policy. Maybe in like 50-100 years when the Petrochemical industry is no longer a staple there.
